Hardy wiper blades?

Post by Jaf »

Ok so I've got to change my wiper blades again. Thunder storms tomorrow so should have done it before! They don't get much use, mostly use them for wash/ wipe. But the things keep falling apart, think they sort of melt to the windscreen. I bought some decent ones and they lasted no longer than cheap ones. Grumble grumble. Anyone try the Bosch ones?

Bosch is all I use, I fitted face lift wiper arms to my MK1 C5 so I could use standard fit flat blades.
Used Bosch on many car and found to be the best of all that i have tried. I do clean mine every time I wash the car with the wash mitt.

That sounds odd - what do you use to wash / clean the screen?

I just had to fit a pair of Bosch wipers as the ones that were on - one of them anyway, blew off when my son was on the motorway.
I'm finding them excellent and very simple to fit.

I use the cheapest Aero type blades I can get on ebay (from a seller who was recommended on this forum) and have never had a problem with longevity or performance.

Oooh not heard of aero, will have a look. I use standard screen wash but must admit I never wash the car or the blades, apart from prior to itv (mot). It's illegal to wash your car on the drive in Spain! Not that it would stop me if I could be bothered but there seems little point as it's so dusty. I will have to get into the habit of washing the screen with a bucket of water. Raining now but it's gritty rain.

There are only two types of driver: those who wash their blades, and those who don't.

The last kind have more scratches on windscreens.

We have cars in for mot and fail on wipers for smearing badly, coment normally is only had then on 6 months. When asked when the last time they washed them they look at you gone out.

I replace my blades when I think they are knackered, never clean them, never get a scratched screen, and have never had an MOT fail. I did have, a couple of years ago, the tester comment "it's just scraped a pass, but you might want to put some water in the bottle before next time..."

Flat "aero" type blades on eBay, £5 a set inc delivery. Now on my second set in 2 years and really pleased with how quiet/efficient they are. I remember having to buy a set of wipers for my Vel Satis which were £60 on sale from Renault, (i had to sit down when he told me the price)

I've had a couple of pair of those and found them satisfactory. It was one of those that blew away and I had to get a replacement fast. My local car bits shop got the Bosch ones and some Valeo ones in for me, fitted the Bosch (£10) ones and returned the Valeo (£30) ones.

There was an immediate improvement with the Bosch, cleaned the screen much better than the 'Aero' ones, which left noticeable smearing. They weren't old as I fitted them when the new screen went in about six months ago and I regularly clean the screen and wipers.

I always wipe wipers with a cloth/wipe if there is grit where they park and also the park area. Blades last 3 years or so and give a very clean wipe. I find the later flat blades much better than the old type as they do not "dimple" at the pressure points after a year...??
Hope this helps

I always wipe my blades when I clean the screen or car.

I think Northern_Mike must live and drive exclusively somewhere in the far North, where there's only snow drifts and no grit and abrasive dust thrown up. :-)

I always clean the blades when I clean the windscreen. I also use Rain-X on the windscreen, and I swear by (NOT at) it.

Northern_Mike live about 10 miles from my location. I have been trying to help him with that V6 Xantia of his.
