C5 1 Engine ECU Not reognised

Post by citroenxm »

Dooing a Lexia session on a C5 HDi 8v 2.0, going in to the ECU came back with "ECU Not Recognised" however I can still go in and read the faults ETC. Though theres a warning that tests and faults may NOT be correct!

Anyone know why Lexia cannot recognise the ECU?? Thanks

Sorry, but I couldn't resist! I hope you get better info though.

EDIT; I wonder if the ECU has be changed in the past, and the systems weren't properly updated?

Some cloned Lexias are said to have trouble reading C5 ECUs.
Never had a problem with mine, but perhaps this is what's meant.

Wrong VIN or RPO entered, or the ECU in the car has been changed to a different type at some point. (Maybe even an engine/ECU swap ?)

Check the engine and ECU details on service.citroen and see if they match what's actually in the car! The Lexia goes by a built in database that contains a list of what ECU's each car was fitted with at the factory, by VIN number. If someone changed the engine and ECU for a different model its not going to be looking for the right ECU model, at least on the global test.

In test by function you could manually try selecting the other ECU variants, as all possible engine ECU's for the C5 will be listed. (But only one will work properly)

According to the owner, he has had the ECU upgraded, and so obviously my Lexia does not have these Upgraded details in it.

However, I still managed to diagnose a dead Air Flow Meter as the air flow did not rise above 54kg/m of flow.

New one fitted and it went in to the 500s or so of flow and so on.

Im loathed to update my Lexia, As Ive read about people who have then it doesn't work again.

What version of software is your Lexia running? When upgraded the software on mine it went well until one version (IIRC 7.16, but I am NOT certain of this) and then asked to register. As I had copied the C:\AWROOT\BIN folder to a backup location after each upgrade (and I copied them into their own folder; 7.10, 7.11, etc.), I was able to copy the previous folder back.

IIRC Mandrake knows where to get updates that don't have this problem. It could be work asking him where to get them from. In fact, I will (in his V6 blog) so I can get MY Lexia up to date.

No need, I do read other threads on the forum other than my own...

Unfortunately the latest version I have is 7.15 and I no longer have access to the auto-professionals forum where I was periodically obtaining the latest updates. (Accounts that are inactive for a number of months get culled and new sign-ups have been disabled for more than a year, I forgot to log in for over 6 months so my account was deleted and I'm effectively locked out :( )

Versions from 7.02 to 7.15 can be found here:

A few optional utilities including a manual installer for the device driver and a firmware updater/downgrader here:

My Lexia is running (supposedly) the latest version, this is 7.36 which i have on a disc, updating lexia should pose no problems at all SO LONG AS YOU NEVER LET IT UPDATE ONLINE so im lead to believe although you all know that already im sure.
Let me dig it out and see if i can email the required updates.
