charging fault question.

Hello all.

Charging fault question on my dads 04 plate 1.8 petrol Picasso,

He will be driving along and all of a sudden the battery light comes on followed by a beep and a charging fault message on the dash and all the dash lights go dim and wipers slow down,

If he carries on driving after a while the battery light goes out and all is fine again,

This can happen 3-5 times in a 2 hour journey,

but if he pulls over with battery light on and turns engine off and re starts nothing its as though the battery is dead,

but disconnect the battery for a few seconds and it starts and runs as normal till the battery light comes on again.

Any idea`s anyone?
