Hello all. New to this forum and so any help appreciated.
I have a 1.9D Dispatch van (2004) and need to get the front hub nut off. I didn't have one large enough in my toolbox and so popped to Wilco. They thought it might be a 36mm socket and so I purchased this (Laser impact socket). The problem being that I couldn't actually check the size with the socket as the socket wall (so overall size) won't fit into the well which holds the hub nut. I tried giving it a knock with a hammer to see if I could encourage it in but didn't want to destroy the socket.
Anyone had this problem before? Anyone know the socket size? Anyone know a slightly thinner walled impact socket (the one I bought was about 50mm).
Thanks
Shane

I have a chromed six sided regular socket that fits them with no difficulty, its probably your impact socket thats a bit thick in the walls.

Re: Citroen Dispatch hub nut
It's actually 35mm, going down to this size might just make the socket fit, otherwise, you will need to do it with the wheel off, or the spare fitted if you can't get it undone in the air.

Re: Citroen Dispatch hub nut
Thanks both. Wilco thought it was 36mm but I did suspect 35mm when I went to their online site and it stated 35mm 'Citroen' (although it didn't say Citroen what!). I took the 36mm back and bought the 35mm but doh! socket still too wide. They didn't have any standard 35mm sockets in but now I know the definite size, I will get one next week and just try and get it off with the breaker bar. Cheers for your help.

Re: Citroen Dispatch hub nut
Never managed to get a good socket for these, even tried Citroen. The hole that the nut sits in is actually tapered, so watching this topic with interest

There's these thin wall impact sockets. No idea if they're any good or if they'll fit though !

I have a cheap 3/4 drive socket set I bought years ago, the socket from that fits OK.

Re: Citroen Dispatch hub nut
When I had to replace the front reluctor rings on Gracie I had the right sized socket, but not enough leverage. CitroJim offered to help (which I accepted), but my socket wouldn't fit on his breaker bar. His socket was too wide to fit (right socket size), so he introduced it to his bench grinder (much to my surprise!), took a bit off, and then it fitted perfectly. A couple of hours later Gracie had two new reluctor rings and an ABS system that was no longer complaining.

Re: Citroen Dispatch hub nut
I've had a 36mm socket that I've used on citoens and peugeots since 1980! I bought it to do a Lancia Beta hubnut and had the outside wall of the socket turned down in a machine shop. Make sure you get a 3/4 drive socket and t-bar. That way you can slot a pipe over the end and stand on it. A 1/2 inch one with a breaker bar probably won't work.

Hi All
Thanks for all your words of advice. I am however a bit confused about the size. Is it 35mm or 36mm?
thanks

Re: Citroen Dispatch hub nut
Even if its 35mm a 36mm socket should be near enough. As far as I know most if not all PSA drive shaft nuts are the same size. I have used a 36mm half inch drive socket for years. Then I got an imperial 3/4 drive socket set. I think I used to use the 1 3/8 socket. Now I use a 36mm 3/4 drive socket from a set I bought a few years ago. As already stated your impact socket probably has very heavy walls. I would suggest either grinding it down or getting another one with thinner walls ands a single hex.

This is what you need:
http://www.sealey.co.uk/PLPageBuilder.a ... results=16" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
And, if you need to replace the lower ball joint, you'll need one of these:

Which very neatly take the 35mm socket you've previously purchased.
