Xantia Front Suspension Height

Unread post by kilianmanning »

Hi guys,

Front suspension on my s1 xantia is sitting quite low & is therefore quite bouncy.

New front spheres & has been sitting fine since I've fitted the new spheres, only happened recently.

Would air in the system cause this?

PS car goes into service (high) mode fine, it just sits lower than normal in driving mode. ( if that makes sense)

No.

It should be bouncy. You're lucky if you have a really soft ride. I am of course assuming that you do not have an Activa or anything special.

What's low? There should be at the height of 3 fingers between tyre and front wheel arch and 1 finger between tyre and rear wheel arch.

There's plenty of articles on here if you search thoroughly. I adjusted mine S1 some year ago and that was quite a detailed thread from memory.

EDIT:

Here's one of the posts where I was concerned about ride height.

There is a picture on there of RicahrdW's gold Xant.

I doubt you need to touch ride height to be honest having re-read the old post.

Here is some pictures of how the car is sitting at the front & the rear while the car is running in driving mode.

Well it looks quite low on the front. Rule of thumb: in the front you can put three fingers between the tyre and body and in the back one finger. Maybe the mechanism on the front height corrector is a bit sticky. Maybe you need to readjust the height.

Too high at the back, too low at the front. Won't ride or handle very well like that. Both look to be out by approximately 20-30mm.

See here for height measurements if you want to measure it accurately:

Bouncy doesn't mean soft, it usually means the car is bouncing on the tyres because there is no give in the suspension.

That's DickieG's Xantia not RichardW

But yes, the ride height on that gold Xantia looks spot on.

Both front and rear ride height are way out IMO.
