1519 Error Code

Post by Rhothgar »

Can anyone tell me what this is please?

Snap-On states water temp sensor

A mate's diag kit states Oil Temp Sensor.

It's on the Xantia 110 HDi.
Intermittent fault on water temp sensor where temp shows normal and gauge acts normal but red light in temp gauge sometimes comes on and goes off again.

P1519 Temporary Fault. Cooling function incorporated into ECU consistency between fan unit speed and setting
sounds like you got a duff coolant sensor

More likely that one (or both) of the fans, or the control relays, are duff - somehow the ECU knows that the fans are not running (measures current draw perhaps?) and if they are supposed to be (eg AC on) then it flashes the overtemp light. You can test with Lexia AFAIK, otherwise, if the AC is still working, then switch it on, and at least one of the fans should start (there are 2 different fan operatios - some run both fans at half speed, switching to both at high speed when required; others run 1 fan at full speed, again switching to both at full speed when required). If at least one fan doesn't start, then either a fan or relay is duff. There is only 1 temp sensor, and if the gauge is reading ok, then the sensor is probably OK.

The fan unexpectedly hoovers up a heavy wattage, power to the ECU dips and the gauges return odd readings. Common on Berlingo and C3 models from about 2002- '05(?). Citroën later put in a helper relay for these models but I haven't seen the circuit.

Thanks Guys.

Well. I'm not driving the car at the moment. The other half is so obviously accurate information is non-existent. Puts the key in and drives.

This morning I got her to start engine. Without AC, nothing spins. AC on both fans at half speed. But the temp light was on and the STOP light didn't go off until temp was just under 60 degs.

I am sure it has not done this before but not 100%. Airbag light is on too.

It will be cooling fan operation.

A lexia will let you do a Low speed Fan test and a High speed fan test... One or other should NOT be working.

Its a bit of a grey area that warning light! But donates cooling fan warnings rather then water temperture warm up issues ...

Cheers Paul

I'm unclear on this still.

The fans rotate when the car is at normal temp and if AC is on whether car is at normal temp or not and the car does not overheat. How can that be faulty?

I seem to recall changing one of the 3 relays at some pont perhaps this caused the issue.

Question is are all these 3 relays identical in operation and rating. If not, I suppose I might have to dig deep a get all three from Citroen to be sure they are correct.

Drove the S2 to the NEC and back last Sunday and took more notice of what was happening with the temp gauge.

It does fluctuate but it is intermittent. Going the red light was on and off and the temp gauge dropped to 60 degs. This probably explains why the HDi is struggling to get decent MPG over a tank.

The last fill up was atrocious. 37.855mpg. That is GRIM!

I filled as we left Nottingham and upon return. Didn't quite brim it (probably a litre short but Sylv was weeping almost as it got to near £100 and she was paying) but did on return and it was 55.155mpg so I guess I probably did nearer to 60mpg as I've done on many occasion on reasonable runs before.

If the temp gauge is low on the dash would this send a signal to the ECU to indicate that the car is cold and is warming up hence using different injector timing and increasing fuel use.

37.88! JEESUS Roger! My HDi exclusive at 275k still gives me 48mpg with a heavy foot!

Heres a thought for you, I dont think the temperture would affect the MPG that much, what state is the MAF sensor like? A faulty one of those can cause adismal MPG like yours...

Like I said, 55+ on a run but just not on the complete full last tank which was mostly around town with a trip to Stansted and back (230 miles) so it should definitely be more than the round town figure overall from Citroen's figures which I think are 37.9mpg Urban for an S2 110HDi.

Trust me I am gutted. I was unaware the 110Hdi had a MAF sensor. I'll check out over the weekend. Have you got any figures for testing it? And what would be best to clean it out?
