wvo advice please..

Unread post by citroenxm »

Ive found a small but free supply of wvo from a local cafe. Its only about 20 (or 25l) say a month.

however the cafe owner has asked me for a receipt for her records of disposal/removal from her business. Reading about I see you need to be registered for removal but the web sites are useually talking massive qtys. If I supply I reciept will I get into trouble for the small qtys im taking ..?

How do other people on wvo get round it...

Hw do you do it Xac?

It's my understanding that this is one of those legal muck ups that the previous government were great at creating.
Retailers have to have a certificate to show that they've disposed of their wvo properly to a registered handler, however home users don't need to register in order to take wvo.
Great isn't it?
I'm sure after reading on the vegdiesel website there are various "fake" certificates you can download and use.

I use SVO so don't have this issue.

There is a possibility that if it is checked out (unlikely) that you may be asked for a waste carriers licence.
In Scotland that is about £180 for 3 years. Once you start carrying waste product in a commercial sense you need a licence. Builders waste and scrap metal are 2 examples.
Although you are not a business, you are dealing with a business(cafe owner). When I did the Biodiesel I had a waste carriers licence for my business anyway, so I was squeaky clean. IME they usually go after actual businesses that they think may not be paying their license. Like the TV people they have a list of business and they check against the list that their licence is up to date. They will write and demand it if not.

Just take the stuff and write out a receipt, what's the worse that can happen.

Iirc you can print off a waste transfer notice WTN as they are transferring it to you. When they ask to see your disposal of it you point to the car :)

The guys on vegoildiesel know a lot more about this so worth registering and nosing about on their forum :)

Hi
I can not find a link to the waste transfer note on the veg oil forum now, but still have a copy of one on my computer.

If you would like to give me an e-mail address I will try and forward it to you.

It is all you need to fill in and keep if you are ever asked for it.

If you are not a commercial collector, you do not require a waste carriers license. The person you are collecting from might (and should) ask for a Waste Transfer Note (WTN) allowing them to demonstrate to environmental inspectors that they are disposing of their waste responsibly. They might use your details on the WTN to verify this (although very unlikely). If you are using less than 2,500 litres in any 12 month rolling period, you are required by law to record how much you are using and be able to produce these records if asked (again very unlikely).

I never kept any records of how much oil i was using, as i could simply prove that my mileage in said vehicle was lower than the using 2500 litres of oil. However, probably best if the business wants some records to ensure they don't get fined etc...
