Citroen C5 clutch problem

Post by Jimbo59 »

I wonder if someone has had this same problem.
Driving in my Citroen C5 ( 2l HDI 2001) the clutch suddenly went to the floor with a pop.
My Mechanic who I have had for years put a new clutch in. On driving away the same thing happened.
Then he put a second hand Flyweel in. Same thing happened. I got a hundred yards. He is baffled and does not
seem to know what the problem is. Any ideas?

Probably the clutch slave cylinder has gone, £20 piece of cheapo plastic under the air box/trunking on the right of the engine. Used flywheel, rather you than me.

Careful observation when dismantling seems to be the order of the day here!
It's no good just replacing bits and hoping for the best; making a good repair involves understanding what's failed and why before proceeding.

Surely a mechanic would have done the slave with the clutch,or at least done it before replacing the flywheel.

Presumably this is fitted with a pull-type clutch. It sounds like the bearing is not located in the cover properly. I've also had an issue in a peugeot with the same clutch design recently where the bearing supplied with the kit in the pull type clutch was woefully inadequate and fell apart due to poor design. The kit in question was an LUK who normally make perfectly good clutches, but have cocked it up with a useless bearing design on this model
