ABS light on but no ABS?

Post by endorfin »

My niece has a 1998 1.9TD Xantia LX and the orange ABS light is on which I assumed was a failed sensor, I was about test the pins on the ABS ECU with a multimeter, but there isn't 1! The space where it usually is in front of the LHM reservoir is empty as if it's missing but there is no sign of any wiring loom or a plug.
I had a look and there's no ABS unit or piping, it was a bit dark and I only had a torch but it doesn't look like it has ABS, I was under the impression that most Xantias, at least the LX had ABS as standard, and if it doesn't why is the light on?

Any ideas?

Series two cars had abs as standard but I get the feeling it was with hdi engines only that being 90 or 110 bhp engines.so I think LX Td engines had the option. Looks like it's an instrument removal job which on an s2 is a bit of a pain. Steering wheel can stay on but to get the grey trim out you need to take the radio out to get at the left band end fixing screws..

Which one? I have 3!

They're still in storage here in North Wales, well 2 of them anyway the S2 is just sitting outside. Just waiting for the weather to be a bit more favourable then I will tackle them.

Edit: Just realised which one you are referring to, that's one of the ones in storage. I got that going, it was a failed coil pack. Then it wouldn't rise, put some LHM in and it started leaking from the FDV valve and I had trouble finding one (new prices were excessive) then I remembered seeing one in one of my boxes of bits and dug it out, fitted it, filled it with green blood and the suspension rose! Drove it a few miles to where it is stored and it drives surprisingly well. It does need some TLC which I will do when I've some more time.
