C5 remote not working in the morning

Hi all,
Havent been here for a while, meaning things were going ok (well, nothing too major, apart from slowly deteriorating fuel consumption - I'd better change oil and filters etc).
Except - it started a few days ago when evening/morning sees its temperature dropping down from afternoon and remote doesn't seem to do anything.
when the morning warms up, it works fine - I'm guessing something s a bit off on the transceiver department as that is the only variable.
Anyone had a similar experience and solution?

i do remember searching for the remote battery, supermarkets and stationary places didnt have them. i might have changed but then not too sure.
but the funny thing is it only happens when its cold outside and the key's been indoors overnight, so can't have been affected.
where is the transceiver for the remote in the car by the way?

Mine is slow to lock/unlock when it is cold.

The receiver for the central locking remote is integrated into the com2000 unit (the wiper & indicator stalks assembly).
I cant say I have ever heard of one of these to fail causing locking problems, normally when they fail its lights, indicators or airbag faults.
