Xantia HDI Engine Management Light.

Unread post by boltonbloke »

Hi all. I recently disconnected the ABS ECU on my W reg Xantia HDI turbo Diesel as the system was playing up dangerously and I didn't have time to take the car in for repairs. Around the same time I removed the air filter housing so I could access the top of the gear box to add some oil. Shortly afterwards, during a 200 mile journey, the engine management light came on and has been on ever since. The car also seems to have lost some power. I need the car daily and it is going to be a week or so before I can get it to a mechanic. Any advice???? Thanks all.

Could be a whole host of things which may or may not be connected with the things you mentioned.
My X reg Hdi has had the engine management light on since I got it (well the bulb had been removed). All attempts to reset it with a Lexia failed however 6 years and 184k miles on the car runs fine. Without a read of the codes (if any) it is really a stab in the dark.

Hi again. Just checked the revs. I'm assuming you mean while the car is stationary? The revs go up well beyond 3,000. Thanks again.

Ok, so its not in limp home mode....

Is it a massive loss Of power? Is the plug to the air flow meter back in correctly?

Hi. Not a massive power loss. Where is the air flow meter plug please? Sorry if that's a stupid question, but I'm not that up on engines, though I'm slowly learning.

Its on the Air Filter Box, you would have had to of unplugged it to of removed the Air Filter Box to get at the gearbox.

Hi. I just nipped out with my torch. The plug is securely connected. Could it be that the pipe going into the filter housing from underneath may not be connected properly?

No that wont effect it.. as long as all pipes from the top of the air filter house to the back of the engine and under the engine to the intercooler...

I may try changing the air filter. This only happened after I took it out whilst trying to remove the casing to access the gearbox. I doubt it has any bearing but I had the timing belt changed about a thousand miles ago.
