Coolant warning

Post by ej2095 »

Odd this

I parked ca last night on kerb and half on road so car was at an angle.

Had a damp night with frost this morning jumped in car this morning it said check coolant...

So i put car on flat service checked it was fine?

Jumped back i car and no more warnings...

drove to work with heaters keeping me toasty and all was fine...

Wondering if the sensor was being a bit wierd...

It depends on where the sensor is mounted, and the angle of the car. If there is a sensor in the expansion chamber, and the angle allowed it to be above the coolant level, then it would 'believe' the coolant level was too low. I have had something similar when Gracie was parked at a sufficient angle for her to 'believe' there was a problem with the oil level, and to flash the 'dipstick' light for 15 seconds. When she was parked on the level, there was no problems.

Then the sensor got dry overnight, couldn't tell why, and let you know it thought there was a problem. Once the car was on the level, the sensor got wet, and it then could see there was enough coolant to stop the car overheating. It is better to have a false alarm (in my opinion) than no alarm when a problem might exist.
