Post by hj79 »

Hi. I need new brake disks and found cheep ones (61 GBP for 2) with a note: High carbon content. Is this in any way bad for the performance?

In theory high carbon is better and can operate over a broader temperature range, but in reality I would suggest it's not a factor for most. I found cheap disks can warp and generally are false economy. I'm running Mintex discs currently and I'm sure these were £54 a set off of ebay?

Ok. I haven't been looking on E-bay yet. The prize I got was from http://www.mister-auto.se" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (Bolk disks). But it's a good price here in Sweden :-)

I think high carbon would rust more . Not an issue really, though they tend to do so more on the rear.

Chrome and Nickel content have been cut back on. Maybe due to cost or not enough friction. There is a lot of poor steel around from recycled material. What can you do?

Ok. I can imagine that is't cost reduction that's the issue with high carbon...
Anyway. I ordered from http://a2zmotorspares.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; on their ebay shop. Even though the shipping was about 70 GBP (~800 SEK) is't half the prize from Swedish prizes. First time I shop from the UK :-)

Sorry, you did actually say that previously and I missed it.
Expensive but still a bargain compared to sourcing in Sweden.
