2.0 hdi temp issues.

Post by MonkeyMark »

Hi all.
I've been having some issues with the running temp on my 2.0 hdi (c8 2003).

I've changed the water pump and thermostat but it's no better.

It never used to be like this but now takes ages to warm. When driving the temp gauge can suddenly drop and raise randomly.Sometimes flicks down and back up but sometimes stays down for quite a while. I thought sender unit but engine tone changes a little when it drops, more tappy.

Any ideas? I use it to tow my caravan and don't want to break down out in the sticks.

All help appreciated.

OK thanks. I'm not a mechanic, more a diy 'er. Can you tell me where the sender is located and if it's an Easy change please?

There is a mention in this thread http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... =3&t=39396" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; that it is "on the side of the head on the coolant house"

Ebay suggests it is a green plug. http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_trksi ... &_from=R40" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

EDIT: just read more of that thread I linked above and it also says "its on the end of the head above the gearbox.. Blue plug on it.."

Did mine last week on my C5. Sender was £9 on eBay, its on the right hand of the engine block under a couple of pipes, its just a two pin plug to pull off and a circlip type arrangement that holds it in place. Its possible to do without draining the coolant off if you are quick in swapping it, i lost hardly any fluid at all. Just make sure the coolant isn't hot.

Ok,

Thanks for the help eveyone, i found and changed the part but...

The part i was given was from another car so not new. It did help, especially when the engine was cold. It seemed to pull better presumably from more accurate fueling. Problem is this one looks like its developing the same fault. Not as bad as the original but still starting to do it again and I have a caravan to tow this weekend so want to get it done asap. At least now I know its an easy job (saabc5 your right, I did a quick swap and lost maybe a pint of water, certainly easier than draining the system).

Does anyone know what the part number would be? I looked on ebay and found several so im not sure which would be the correct one. It a 2003 hdi.

All help greatly appreciated.

The engine in the C8 is not necessarily the same as other cars - many are the 16V units. Post up or PM the last 8 digits of the VIN and I'll get the part no (and price :twisted: ) from service.citroen
