Xantia clutch job Parts,

Post by Timmo »

Hello chaps!
After my 'i really don't want to do that job i'll give it to my mate' spanner man has had a few stallers and rush jobs and is now in the process of moving i haven't had the clutch done yet, and its now pretty toasted! Slips as soon as the turbo kicks in, which in a heavy old 90horse barge needy most those horses kinda way, its not that handy! he is moving to a premises with a heated garage at the end of the month, but i'm going to need it by then! - half term is between now and then!!
So! i have decided to have a Crack at it myself! i intend to pop it up on ramps and then onto axel stands to give enough room?? is this okay or too high?? i have the tools i'm going to need as far as i know from previous jobs done.

i have read through this thread http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... tia+clutch" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and bookmarked it to read again, according to the thread i should get 2L of this over std common cogbox oils http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Total-BV-75W8 ... 258365cad0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Citroen-Xanti ... 27dab59033" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for which i understand you prise out and push in the new ones??
Whilst the box is off Is it worth replacing these too?? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CITROEN-BERLI ... 27dd872c11" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

the cars on 160k, ive no idea if the bushes have been changed before as we have no history from previous 3 owners, (it was a demo car, then an employee owned it for 10+ years had to sell due to back problems and needed something higher to get into, he said anything that needed dooing was done at the garage, then sold to a local band drummer for space who kept it a year, did mot and standard parts.) i dont want to manage the clutch and then find i need to do the bushes after if you know what i mean, i'm not going to rush the job, mostly as the M.E. wont allow more than a few hours at a go, but want to make sure i do it right!!
is there anything else i should be changing in and around there whilst i am at it???

many thanks in advance for your time to read through my drivvle!

Timmo.

looks like you'v just about got it all covered, the only part you dont have in your list, is the main part being the clutch kit #-o :-D :rofl2:

the cost of those bush's its not worth not changing them whilst its all apart, as you cant fit them when its all back together,

be cautious of clutch's that look like a bargain on ebay, and even more so from that E bunch,

i personally use GSF and Valeo kits when available, otherwise LUK

I'd replace the input shaft seal / bush as well, 'tis only a few quid, and you don't want it to leak oil all over your nice new clutch :-D eg Shaft seal

Have an Assistant help you get the box back on the engine after installing the clutch! As the BE3 box is heavy especially after a long day after a strip down removal clutch swap then bu the time its time to put the box back on your useually knackered and its hard work!

I try to NOT let the box leave the engine bay and I rest it on the subframe front edge and a trolly jack while I swap the clutch, its a case of just swinging it back on, but theres the catch, as Im knackered and always have issues..

I can do a clutch in a day, but thats NOT swapping the nylon bush's or input shaft, though the nylon bushs dont take much longer no doubt.

I wont be doing it in a day lol! It'll be a couple of days if not more, probably one day strip down to ready to unbolt and pull off, one day box off, bits swapped box on, then another day of put it All back together, the m.e. Simply won't allow much more, and when the tiredness kicks in the patience disappears very quickly and the simple becomes anything but! ;-)
Which reminds me, deep 11mm socket or ratchet spanner for the intermediate bearing bolts!

Deep Socket 11mm and ratchet, just undo them to the ends of the threads then press and twist them..

Intermediate bearing will be EITHER: F kin Tight, or simply pop out!!!

cog box oil, driveshaft seals, input shaft seal, fork bushings and a deep 11mm socket ordered!
feeling a little daunted at the prospect of the job but have the back up of a few mates if needed!! ;-)

mind you pull the O/S drive shafts before removing the box the engine bolts, else the shaft gets wedged as the box goes out of line the the engine,
also i presume you have read regarding the need to remove the clutch fork actuating arm/lever, as this allows the fork prongs to disengage/re/engage from then back into the thrust bearing,

Yes have read about popping both shafts out for ease and access,
Clutch actuating arm as in the pin that needs to be pulled out?

Yes timmo.

The arm doesnt actually need removing, remove the Pin BUT be warned this too can be soooo tight it seems it will never come out. Grind a flat on it, heat it up and remove. OR it will simply pull out - use mole grips to remove...
