Pug 407 2.0 HDi Autobox....

Post by Chris570 »

I know it's not a Citroen but it is a C5 underneath and more people come here.....
Looking to buy this car so I can't just nip outside and go and look
It's a 2.0 HDi 2005 car. It's a 4 speed auto, now then, is it an AL4 or an HP20..............

It’s an AL4, the HPs had gone out by then.
The AL4 hydraulics aren't bad but the electronic control on the earliest models was very primitive.
Make sure that it accelerates properly from creeping speed in slow unlocked second gear; otherwise you won’t want it.

Chris.. don't do It.

Get a series two c5 2.0 hdi 138bhp with the 6 speed auto!!! I know which I'd have.

I believe it's not a zf box either and it's an asin far more reliable.

I'm surprised the 2005 406 is only a 4 speed... but yes its an al4

Fear not, it's not for me. The prospective owner much prefers the 407, don't ask me, it's a matter of taste.

I wouldn't have thought the AL4 could handle the torque from the 138 bhp beast

No probably not chris hence the switch to asin. . This means then if the 406 is a 110 2.0 then it's still fitted with the old 8v xantia/c5 MK. 1 engine which is odd.. so its more likely to be the dv6 16v engine which with an al4 on is double disaster time bomb!

By odd I mean the 8v 110 amazing engine was dropped around 04 in favour for the 1.6 dv6 engine..
