Xantia accident damage

Post by handyman »

So my V6 Xantia was parked and I was standing nearby. I had parked it half a cars length behind one of those 4X4 tanks people insist on driving in this country.

To my horror, I saw the tank start to reverse back into my car and heard the crunching sound of plastic breaking. Luckily, the numpty who was driving the tank stopped and I rushed to my car expecting to see serious damage. So far, I have a damaged front number plate with a neat circular hole where the tanks towbar punctured it. I have yet to remove the number plate to see if the bumper is also holed.

Looking at the bumpers alightment, there does not seem to be any other damage, as the bumper is straight, with all the panels in normal alignment. Shunt speed was no more than 5-10mph if that, but the tank was 'kin heavy.

My car has an auto gearbox, which was in normal 'Park' mode without the handbrake on. Am I likely to expect gearbox damage?

Previous experience with other auto cars has shown damage to the transmission can appear at later dates.

Your thoughts or experiences please.

Bad Luck Richard,

As for gearbox damaged, I wouldn't of thought so, the Drive shafts lock into opposite roation when in park to prevent rolling, in a staionary position I beleve its a rather hardy type of system, and wouldn;t cause any issues..

Though Im no expert on the HP20 gearbox, CitroJim is the man to ask as he knows them inside out!

Ive got a 2.1 TD front bumper in olive green here, in good nick IF you havent got one and need one

Thanks for the heads up on the gearbox, Paul, as that puts my mind at rest concerning any consequencial damage.
ATM, I've not contacted my insurers, as I prefer to keep a clean slate, especially when its somebody elses fault, but if there is any further damage, once I've taken off the number plate to replace it, I'll be going at this numpties insurance quite hard to get any damage fixed.

I wouldn't be bothered if the car was a wreck, but an unmarked Exclusiv with only 82K on the clock!

What I find amazing is the idiot works for a company that moves motor vehicles for the trade. Pity getting a car that he's been involved with.
'I did not see you behind me'
'Well use your feckin' mirrors, thats what they're for!' plus a few more choice expletives. [-X

What kind of 4x4 was it as some are much lighter than you'd expect and a lot have parking sensors at the rear and rear view video due to such bumpties....
