Xantia TD fuel gauge

Hello guys,

The fuel gauge in my Xantia is playing up.

Sometimes it will read empty when starting up the car, then it will rise to the actual amount of fuel in the tank, but it works normally most of the time.

I have taken off the tank & checked the electrical connection to the fuel sender & it seems fine.

Does anybody know what else is likely to be the problem? Could it be the clocks themselves?
