speedo and rev. counter reading slow.

Post by colin machin »

citroen c5. 2002 hdi. speedo and rev. counter, when the ignition is turned off speedo and rev. counter does not register zero, both needles drop right down. when running both work, but register at half of what they should. the rev. counter registers zero when the engine is running, and should register about a thousand. i can still use the car but when the speedo registers twenty it is doing about forty. i have another c5 2007, and even with the battery disconnected both needles register on the zero. any ideas would be very welcome.

A Lexia clone.
From posts on the forum the preferred one appears to be from Easydiganostics (eBay). There are lots of threads discussing it. Can be difficult to set up and you will need a laptop with (ideally) Windows XP but the 32 bit version of Windows 7 appears to work too.

Many members own a Lexia and are prepared to read and clear codes on other member's cars. There is a list of them and a map with their locations here.
The map can take a while to load and may not work well with the new Google Maps.

Mine does this. It's the dash pod. You need to either get it repaired or replaced. My speedo work a but nothing else works properly apart from the fuel gauge. Be warned that if you slip a replacement unit it, the ECU will add the mileages of the old and new units together so for example if your car has 120, 000 on it and the replacement pod has 120, 000 on it, your car will show 240, 000.

I'd just use a sat nav for speed if I were you.

Closest is near Altrincham, only 30 miles.

One near Telford and one near Wolverhampton, approximately the same distance.

Did speedo and rev counter both misread the same time or break down at different times?

Wondering if the steeper motors driven cogs have broken off the little plastic pegs in the individual casings. There is a DIY fix if this is the problem.
