Xantia wishbone bushes

Post by RichardW »

Finally going to have to do the NS wishbone bush on the Xantia - noticed yesterday when torquing the wheel bolts up after doing the drop link, that there is visible play in the pin now  I know there are stories of short lived bushes - so what recommendations on what to fit, or is it just getting the alignment right that's more important? Just fir the rear bush, or is it worth struggling with the front one as well?

Going to need a bit of money spending on it in the next few months...new front tyres waiting to go on, just fitted drop links, new exhaust cat-back pipe required, front discs and pads, wishbone bush, needs a new windscreen and torque reaction link as well really

i would preferably go to GSF for the bushes, and steer well clear of that E company, especially for the likes of bushes

Fit the best you can afford.. GSF ones are good BUT you have to get the alignment angle correct on the rears and make sure the 2 bolts are done up nice and tight.. it might even be worth replacing them as they can get very rusty/worn just below their heads.. I haven't had any problems with the front bushes.
Good luck,
Chris

Xantia wishbone bushes.

Post by lankytim »

When I was swapping a CV joint I noticed that there seems to be quite a bit of movement in the wishbone bushes, especially the rear one. Is it easy to renew them or should I buy complete wishbones? Does anybody know the best/cheapest place to get them?

i looked at the option of new arms, there is a guy on ebay that had 1 NOS arm, iirc was £30+postage, and another guy who had one that cross referenced from a 106! similar money but both the same, bushes vary from a tenner upto 25 a pop, and for the p bushes they are quite easy a job for the usual DIY mechanic with a bench vice! i managed to do both of mine, one p bush was shot and span off the inner sleeve leaving just the sleeve on the arm to cut and tap off, the other was just a spin it round with a bar whilst the arm was in the vice, then tap the inner sleeve off, fitting was line it up as per the old one and tap it on, the front ones were a bit tougher but once the edges had been disturbed it tapped out,
i will confess i went the cheap bush option but on the basis that they are the same bushes i have had form my local factors before, and the same brand as the ball joints i had, qep iirc.

after paying out just over the £100 quid each for a pair of Volvo V70 front arms ( heavy cast alloy ) and the bush's literally falling apart within the year,

then a Bosch boxed Lambda sensor not even firing up on the return MOT emissions test,

both of which were for customers cars

it tends to leave a nasty taste in the mouth,
