c5 exclusive tailgate problem

Hi, has anyone had any experiences of the tail gate failing to open unless the engine is running? I have only had the car for a month it was ok but has recently been playing up

Which C5 are you talking about: 1st gen, facelifted gen or the current X7 ?

So, X7 it is ... saloon or estate? It's hard to tell from your description, maybe there is something in the locking mechanism, that prevents it from normal operation, that wouldn't be directly related to the running of the engine ... it either has or it hasn't enough electricity (not considering mechanical faults at this point) to operate the locking mechanism ... when the car is not running and locked, when you unlock it with the remote, all the other doors get unlocked, and the boot (tailgate) stays locked? And it happens every time?

Bigal.
Is your car dropping into "Economy Mode" as soon as you switch the engine off? If so, only certain "essential" electrics will continue to work.
Things like the alarm, the electric park brake will still work, but radio, electric windows etc will not. Maybe the tailgate is not considered essential.
Could be your battery. Winter time driving with extra heating, heated seats, lights etc will drain the battery, especially if you make lots of short journeys. If the battery is not being fully charged, the car goes into economy mode much quicker.

Is that English, Scottish, Doric, Aberdeenshire, or the particularly different variation of it you get in the 30 miles of distance between you in rural Aberdeenshire, and me on the Moray firth coast?

Huntly has a whole different language all of it's own, as has Macduff, Keith, Insch, Inverurie,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and so on

Same up in Lancs where I'm from. Burnley, Blackburn, Accrington all have different accents and their own words and there's not 12 miles between them!
