Berlingo 1.9d 02 timing question

Post by Mushashi »

Hi All this is my first post, my multispace never felt right since I bought it in the summer a strange buzzy engine vibration when reving then would not start one morning mechanic had a look and the numskull I paid to change the timing belt had not tightend the water pump up and 3 bolts had fell out and the buzz I felt was probably the lose pump knocking the timing off. He rebolted it and it lived. But still getting the buzz not all the time but when I do seems a slight lack of power. My question is if the timing belt has jumped even 1 tooth would it be very noticable or could it explain the engine vibration.

hi mushashi

where are you? I think you need the car on a lexia diagnostic..
but, as its a 1.9 d, not sure how much that would show..

anyway, if belt had gone one tooth, I would imagine the car would run like a pig, all the time.. if it ran at all.. don't think that's the problem,,

One tooth retarded will cause difficult starting and low power, it will also be exceptionally quiet, if it was over advanced it would knock, the camshaft could be out but not far or the pistons would hit the valves, that would initially make a tapping noise or a clatter.

Thanks John and Peter, I don't think the timing is out after all going by your advice. I had a route around the engine bay and noticed one of the little vacuum air hoses was split open at the end (it runs from a block of hoses to the air intake manifold) I cut it off and shoved it back on and hey presto no problem since, jobs a good-un.

Thanks again
Jim
