xantia front end rattle

But! Recent anti roll links, New ball joints and rod ends, seems to be drivers side - not severe but annoying when I feel it a little art my feet.

Had a look at the joints and can't get any movement any where save for a little at the anti roll bar bushing - would this be likely? Didn't think it moved enough- looks a pig to change

were did you purchase all the new joints you fitted, as there are some orible ones out ther,
even in branded packets, especially by one national company that begins with a capital E

I know Malcolm but I checked each for play and they are all tight

Yes it's only really showing a wee bit of movement at the roll bar bushing on that side. I don't know that these are maybe meant to have a bit of flex in them? They are rubber unlike the rigid type on BX and CX.

On the way home there it seems like an anti roll link but I replaced that with a brand new one last week

It is one of the oldest Xantias left so maybe something unusual coming loose?

i have heard stories of cheap drop links failing within a very short period,

it is possible the drop limks can make a knocking noise even if you cant feel play in them

try removing drop links one at a time and take it for a drive to see if it is the drop links ??.

no need to test drive the car, as you can feel loose balls whooops i mean ball joints, just by disconnecting them and giving each one a wiggle, see how loose they feel,

even if you cant feel; the play whilst they are still attached

Graeme, check your LHM tank oil for bubbling on the surface when the engine is running (especially on initial startup) and check each end of the feed hose from the LHM tank to the HP pump very carefully for air leaks - it needs to be absolutely air tight, on older hoses if they've been off and refitted its sometimes hard to get a perfect air tight seal, and it does matter.

Believe it or not sufficient air in the hydraulic system can cause a front end rattle/vibration over broken surfaces that feels very like worn droplinks...just something to think about if you can't find a mechanical cause...have a read of the "10 minute mod" thread for some background information:
