Most common leaks on mk 1's seem to be the tailgate plastic membrane, blocked sunroof drain channels, and the rear light lens seals. The mk 2 seems to be far more waterproof. Incorrect windscreen sealing after replacement is another possibility. Not to forget the dreaded heater matrix leak onto the passenger side carpet.

not actually the screen sealing, but the plastic scuttle were it should be bonded to the screen, allowing water to run straight into the car via the heater air intake,

water can also get in if the door card membranes are not sealing

Can't find the correct place to ask but:

I know we've had a lot of rain but my Facelift C5 (2005) has developed a large leak - I think it's the sunroof.
I tried rodding the drain but think I may have dislodged the drain tube (does it have them?) and, trying to find out how long the curtain wire should travel, I've managed to get BOTH footwells wet!
How do I remove the sunroof? Can't see any screws or other fixings in the sunroof tray.
Please?

If mist appear even if you clean the windows the heater matrix is the problem. I recently faced this at my car.

if the C5 sunroof is like the BX and Xant its chassis is the complete head lining,

if indeed you have dislodged the any of the four drain tubes you will more than likely have to drop the head lining to gain access to re/fit them,

there will be a drain tube at all four corners,

as you have found rodding them is not a good idea,

the best way is to blow them out upwards from the bottom of each drain tube

"the best way is to blow them out upwards from the bottom of each drain tube"

In all the excitement I forgot to say that I managed to find the ends of the front drain tubes and blew them using a garden sprayer (without anything in the tank!), and it fixed the problem!
Thanks for all the advice.

If its an Estate and the boot carpet is wet underneath and the carpet under the rear seats is wet then here is the answer.
http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... =3&t=49668" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Mines is completely dry since I did this mod.
I did add a line of rubber window seal to the very bottom of the boot door so that any rain running off as the door was opened was directed to the sides and not on top of my head ( you cna just see the broiwn line at the top of the picture.
