A Few Electrical Problems
Hi I am a new to this site so hello to every 1,
I have recently brought a 2005 C5 Mk2 2.0 hdi Exclusive estate.
I have a few slight problems that i could do with peoples advise for helping to fix them
The rear high level brake light stays on dim all the time from the moment i unlock the car to roughly 5 min after i lock it.
I had a side light out so replaced the front with leds since doing this soon as i unlock the car or open a door they light up dim (i think it maybe something to do with the rear brake light because when that's on the leds side lights are also on, (I've checked all the rear bulbs after reading on here that this could cause this but they are all correct) the same goes for when i lock the car they both stay on or about 5 min after.
It has folding electric mirrors but only the passenger side folds when its locked or when i press the button inside is there any common problems that i can check it looks silly with only 1 mirror folding( the rest of the mirrors functions all work correctly,
My missus mum also has C5 but a mk1 vtr. when it rains it automatically puts the windows up by itself i really like that feature but mine doesn't seem to do it. Is there a feature i need to activate or is this something that stopped on the mk2 C5.
Many thanks
Rich

Re: A Few Electrical Problems
The rear stop light problem is an easy fix....I bet the wires in the tailgate to body "tube" are broken....check there first.
Then do a "reset" of the ecu, but follow the correct procedure...see what happens after that.

The windows up when raining can be turned on with a Lexia so you will either need to pay a dealer to do it or look up your nearest Lexia equipped forum member who will do it for half a can of cider.
It infuriates me to be wrong when I know I'm right

Re: A Few Electrical Problems
Bit of an update the mirror I have got working again in a Fashion I think the gears are broke in the motor I can get it moving again but then clicks a few times then stops moving
The wires in the tube between the boot and roof all seem fine is there anything else that can cause the high level brake light stay on dim with the sidelights
They both work fine when the lights are on or the foot brake pressed

Re: A Few Electrical Problems
Check the bulbs, a double filament bulb put in a single filament bulb holder or vice versa can make all sorts of weird and wonderful things happen, likewise if an internal short between two filaments in a bulb.
Man is, by nature, a lazy beast, he does not need twice encouraging to do nothing.
Re: A Few Electrical Problems
The sidelight issue is normal when they're replaced with LEDs.
There's a residual low current, which would be insufficient to light filament lamps, but is enough to make LEDs glow.
