306 HDI fault

Post by mark21td »

Hi All
Not been on here for a good while, but I'm now having problems with my daughters 306.
it starts but cuts out 100yards down the road, it will restart but does the same afterwards.
it has also stalled on tickover and was very hard to start after.

We've had the codes read and have three faults logged
P1521 clutch sensor (I don't think this is causing the problem)
P1138 fuel pressure regulator
P1112 fuel rail pressure

A search on here shows that fuel pressure regulator is on the HP pump, but I've read elsewhere that these can't be changed.

I've also been advised that changing the HP pump will fix it.
What do you guys think ?

It's a 2001 HDI 90 meridian with 140K, it has run on my biodiesel but mostly on pump diesel.

If it starts OK when hot it probably won't be the HP pump, doe's it have an in tank pump? if so that could be failing.

I've just changed the fuel filter just in case it made any difference, but it's just the same.

After driving it myself I've noticed that it will cut out as the revs rise while driving, but if you keep the revs down low and in a low gear it's fine.

My wife's car is a 406 2L HDI 90 Bosch pump, the same engine as the 306, so I'll see if I can swap the in tank pumps over to see if that works.

It's not the filter as I've just changed that.

Could it be the small filter on the in tank pump getting blocked up ?

I've taken the in tank pump out and the filter / strainer is clean.

My C5 does that and I have changed the pump! Its also stuck in permanent limp home mode, won't go over 3000 rpm, that doesn't bother me in the least. Let us know how it goes with the pump.

Cutting out and running on after the ignition is turned off sounds like a blocked filter on the regulator. If both cars have Bosch systems swap the regulator unit. . One electrical plug and two torx screws. The filter cannot be cleaned.

Yes, I still have the old pump, I will try the effect of swapping the tank pump first as that's an easier job, if that fails I will try the regulator.

I'll try this but not with parts from my wife's car as she's not keen on me swapping parts about.
However I have someone sending me a new regulator and pressure sensor for this reason.
