DW8 EGR removal

Post by lecky4 »

Hi all,
First post on this forum, have done a search but didn't find the answer. Can anyone please tell me how to remove the EGR from my 1.9 (believe it to be a DW8) Expert van.

To remove it completely you'd need to make some pipeworks etc.

To disable it simply unplug its vacuum hose and plug the end of the exposed vacuum pipe. No vacuum = it cannot open.

Ensure its actually closed though as they can gum up and stick partly open. Once its shut it will stay shut without the vacuum being present.

Thanks for that spider, think that May be the way to go but I would like to get it out and check it. Is it difficult?

No not really ( PS, Welcome! :) )

Are you having any problems with it, is that why you wanted to remove it or are you doing it as preventative maintenance ?

Problems, I think its stuck fully open so even if I blank it I need to close it first.

Should be able to unbolt it and undo the crimp type clip holding the metal (its exhaust so it will be hot! leave till its cold) pipe into it, then once its off the vehicle you should be able to see if its closed or not and if needed manually close it.

An alternative would be to block the flexi metal exhaust pipe where it enters the EGR but I'm not sure there's enough space to do that properly. The other end on the exhaust manifold would be easier to actually "block" but a right pain to get to in the first place and you'd hjave to make a template from metal to fit it.
