HDi 110 Cambelt interval

Post by blueboy2001 »

Anyone know what the cambelt interval is on 1999 HDi 110 is?
Its actually in a 406 but this forum is a bit more active. I've rung 4 dealers - 2 said 80k and 2 said 100k!

Would you trust a single cambelt to do 100k miles on an interference diesel engine? Personally I get nervous when I see a belt doing such big mileages.
If you think getting the cambelt changed is expensive, just wait until you get a belt breaking and you get the bills associated with fixing it again.

so i take it you wouldnt leave the belt on the 1.4 HDi engines (as fitted to the C3) for the recomended 150,000[:0] miles ?

It's expensive when you have to pay for it but for the "average" motorist even changing it at every 50k or 60k it will only need doing every 5 years or so. Looked at in that way perhaps it ain't so bad for peace of mind - an engine rebuild if it snaps must cost at least twice as much!

Are the belts especially difficult to change on the HDi? I've run a few places - Pug specialist said £200+VAT, Decent local garage said £200 all in, same place charged me £100 to put one on the Xantia in January. A couple of places didn't want to know.

if anything i would say they are slightly easier although it depends on which vehicle it is fitted to (eg less acesssable on a synergie),there is no turbo or intake pipes in the way & you dont have to peg or time the diesel pump, the crankshaft pegs the same way in the flywheel & the camshaft still pegs with a 13mm (although not a threaded hole).the most anoying part is that all the timing cover bolts are put in with loctite and are tight all the way out & hard to acsess some of them.the tensioner is an eccentric roller type (like on the 8v petrols).you are meant to tension them with the aid of a SEEM meter but iv never bothered.
