2006 C5, No current when ignition is of!?

Post by Axa »

I have an fault that makes the electrical system go completely dead after the delay after the ignition is turned off.
Th tailgate can thereby not be opened. Also the suspension is going up to the highest level, and sometimes the windowwipers do one sweep when the ignition is turned on again.
I have check all fuses I can find. Any ideas of likely cause?

Best regards Gunnar,

After ignition is off and even key off I can listen to radio by manually switching the radio button on. While listening to music it takes sometime before BSI decides to switch the car into economy mode. That's very annoying. I can not turn on radio after that and the car must be started to change to the "normal" mode.

Ignition off the electric windows don't work but I don't know why you can not open tailgate.

It is possible that the car is having a 'hissy' fit. The C5 is known to be very sensitive to any battery problems. I would be inclined to try a BSi reaset to see if that sorts out the problem, but it could be worth getting the battery checked;

Have you been messing about with any fuses recently before the problem started ? If the shunt fuse has been moved to the 'park' position & not in the 'client' position it can do this, it's to save the battery going flat if the car is sitting in a compound for months when it is new.

In the interior fuse box right in the middle, it has SH marked on it & can be fitted in 2 different positions park & client. It should be fitted in the client position.

Axa, I found this pic in my "archive" taken during sunny summer days :) I thought this pic might enlighten a bit in the dark Nordic sky. LHD car like yours 8-)

wheeler, this was an interesting information, thanks. If I have to leave the car for long time, like 2-3 weeks then would it be wise to change the fuse into the "PARKING" position? Could it be used for that purpose?

Credits goes to wheeler =D> , I just added a pic :)

So if understood right, that fuse is moved from client to parking nothing fatal happens, and it can be used for long parking periods (weeks).

You should easily be able to leave the car for 2-3 weeks no problem without doing anything ! Like I said when the car is built its left in the park position till it gets PDI'd at the dealers. It saves any drain on the battery in case the car is sitting around for months in a compound.
There would be no problem moving it over yourself if leaving the car standing, the only precaution I would take is make sure the BSI is fully powered down before removing the shunt. Certain things wont work in this position like central locking, the radio & clock memories wont save. I must say I've never know the suspension to go to the max level when this is moved as the OP described :-k
If I was leaving the car for an extended period of time my preference would be to use a mains or solar battery maintainer as this is more likely to prevent long term damage to the battery.
