Hi all i am a newbie, James from sunny Cornwall.
I am thinking of selling my 306 Hdi, not sure what to get, Would like to stay with Diesel, maybe a 206 ? price range up to 1,500. Any ideas ?
Thanks all

Re: Peugeot 306 Hatchback 2.0 HDi Meridian (90bhp) 5d (AC) (
Welcome.
206 HDi seems logical choice. Some 1.8 units (DW8 based) around up to about 2000 or so, sluggish though unfortunately. Older engine design so less electronics but it lost a bit of power compared to the earlier (not fitted in 206) XUD based unit.
Plenty of 2.0 Hdi units around. Bit tight for space compared to a 306 HDi (oil filter is close to rad etc) but otherwise OK. Bit "heavy" in a 206 but plenty around in other vehicles for easy cheap parts if needed.
1.6 HDi and 16v 1.4 HDi probably not at your price range yet in a 206, relatively complicated units compared to the 8v 1.4 and the 2.0.
Also consider C2/C3 if you can find one in your price range. C3 maybe possible. Personally I'd probably not have a 307 but that's just me.
1.4 HDi OK, (8v) although quite tightly packed into the engine bay ( ! ) not as common as 2.0 so less around for spares.

Depends how new you want to go. The best engine is without doubt the 2.0 8 valve Hdi but they were only used until about 04. I think the 406 is the best car of the lot if its not to big.

I agree with Peter,406`s are great cars but are getting old? If you can find a 03/04 low mileage example you will have a car for life.
The 306 is just as good, solid, comfy and reliable, you may miss it? I`ve had many customers who have changed their 306 for a 206 or a 307 and have regretted it.
Peugeot do not make cars like the 306 & 406 any longer.

I've done exactly that, which is why the last half dozen of my cars have been the 306 and the 307!
I have a 306 but then the high road tax and lack of front armrests and a bit of "newer car envy" and MOT failure worry makes me go for a 307. Then I miss the low down comfortable drive of the 306.
The only solution is to have both, which is why I'm looking for a good 306 to go with the 307.
