Right, here goes.
Diesel additive tank for DPF is still in situ', so, I was thinking that if I remap/remove DPF, could I then replace additive with another fuel?
The details that were popping into my head are as follows:
The additive tank still provides additive even if it has been removed from ecu? (As it's controlled by BSI)
So if I was to replace eolys with say, methanol... Would I see any difference?
Do you think I would have to do any modifications?
What do people think?
A good idea or an idiot blabbering?
Some evidence to back me up a little.......https://eprints.usq.edu.au/5058/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
In this article it talks about ratios... Anyone know the mix ratio for the existing additive tank?

Most that tread this path just chuck diesel in the additive tank.

That's all fine for the majority, but I like to experiment.

Its probably impractical to use that system for dosing ethanol due to the very tiny doses that it works with, ethanol would not be useful or have any effect at those tiny concentrations. I think we are talking milligrams per tankfull for the additive dosing system, thats fractions of a %.

What is encorperated into the system? Wondering if I could adjust it to say 5 or 10%

Re: diesel ethanol mix..... just an idea.... do-able?
The size of the additive tank and the design of the dosing system will make that impractical. Remember, it holds a reasonably small amount of fluid and lasts years and tens thousands of miles, because it injects such tiny doses. Not only would the injection equipment not be designed for that kind of volume, but you would have to refill the tank really often.
'proper' methanol injection is a different thing altogether, I have a drag car that runs it. It uses a pressurized system to dose a water/methanol mix directly into the intake plenum, which means you can run much higher boost and a higher compression ratio and get a lot more power out of a motor without the EGT becoming excessively high or detonation issues. But that is a purpose-built system and is completely different, plus its for a all-out performance car.
If you really want to run methanol/diesel mix, I guess the most practical way to to just mix it manually. Its not as awkward as it sounds. I have to run octane booster or lead additive in some of my old cars, once you get into the habit of putting so much of it in per gallon at the gas station before filling up, it becomes kinda subconscious and you don't notice it anymore.
But...Unfortunately, with modfying cars, most things have either been developed already and are well documented, or are bad ideas. Thinking out of the box is all good and stuff, until people start thinking out of the box about stuff which works to it's full potential in the box already, and that's when you get...well...the VW aircooled and classic Ford scene lol. Just sayin...

The small tank will be a pita for this as it only does around single digit ml doses iirc.
I'd fill it with a diesel additive instead of diesel as it will be in there a long long time and diesel will gunge.
Stick the methonal straight into the tank before a fill up and then as the diesel goes in it will wash it off the filler neck and mix it better as well

Re: diesel ethanol mix..... just an idea.... do-able?
so a summary of advice the advice given would be in my opinion to fill additive tank with octane booster/injector cleaner additive. and if using methanol to just mix as and when in tank.
sounds good to me.
Also, after reading a lot about DPF over the last couple of weeks, I think i'll be doing an oil and filter change once removal is complete.
the reason for this is that during the 3 regeneration cycles i've done on the vehicle (during which it adds fuel on exhaust cycle) there will now be diesel in my oil, and upon inspection it does appear to be the case.
so;
"delete" DPF (including ECU remap),
re-activate additive function in BSI,
fill additive tank with Diesel additive(i'll go for octane booster),
and see what i get out of that and then I will experiment with methanol mixtures later on.
I'll post again once work is complete
by the way, anyone know how big the additive tank is?
