Hi all,
I'm trying to find the pin outs for my Xantia The Series 1 diagnostic socket, its the 30-pin brown connector,is it the same as the XM Diagram??:-

Re: Xantia 30 pin Brown diagnostic socket pinout diagram
Thanks for the reply Addo,
I have a PSA 30 pin to OBD 16 connector which I want to check the wiring on, to make sure that it correctly to match the cars diagnostic socket before attempting to use it, so far there’s a signal ground but no Chassis ground in the connector that I have purchased, I’m using the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On-board_diagnostics" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for the 16pin layout end & working backwards to the 30 pin & then seeing if it matches up with the layout for the XM Diagram

Re: Xantia 30 pin Brown diagnostic socket pinout diagram
The lexia lead does not necessarily follow the standard 16 pin layout as it is not always OBD compliant (especially where the 30 pin adapter is concerned). The Lexia contains a bank of relays which it uses to switch the connections from one pin to another, depending which non-standard car it is connected to.dangerousbrian wrote:Thanks for the reply Addo,

Re: Xantia 30 pin Brown diagnostic socket pinout diagram
I could do some continuity testing on my 16 pin to 30 pin adaptor lead to figure out the wiring if you like - I've never used mine for lack of a 30 pin car to connect it to, but I have no reason to believe it isn't ok.

Thanks XantiaV6 & Mandrake for your reply
I did not know that the Lexia contains a bank of relays to switch the connections,no wondor i'm finding it confusing continuity testing!!! I want to make sure that the OBD16 pin layout side of the connector matches up to the 30 pin diagnostic socket end due to not using a Lexia,i think I will need to match up the Minimum below to be able to communicate with the car using a none lexia equipment:-
16 Pin Layout
-------------
4. Chassis ground
5. Signal ground
7. K line of ISO 9141-2 and ISO 14230-4
15.L line of ISO 9141-2 and ISO 14230-4
16.Battery voltage
30 pin socket
-------------
A3 Earth
C1 K line of ISO 9141-2 and ISO 14230-4
C2 L line of ISO 9141-2 and ISO 14230-4
A1 Battery voltage

Re: Xantia 30 pin Brown diagnostic socket pinout diagram
Now that we know you're trying to use a generic fault code reader rather than a Lexia I'm afraid your chances of this working are very slim.
Connecting just the K and L lines on a Series 1 Xantia would only allow you to communicate with the engine ECU. (and gearbox, if its a V6) All other ECU's use different data lines of their own - eg air bags, ABS, Hydractive, air conditioning and central locking. You can see this on the 30 pin connector pinout on the aussiefrogs link.
As mentioned by xantia_v6 a Lexia uses relays to multiplex the 16 pins on the OBD connector to perform non standard functions when used with the proprietary 16 pin to 30 pin adaptor.
Even if its just the engine ECU you want to communicate with, the ECU is not OBD-II compatible so cannot be read or communicated with by any generic OBD-II reader. Even a Series 2 Xantia - which has the 16 pin OBD-II connector can't be read by an OBD-II reader as the ECU's are not OBD-II compliant, even though the electrical signalling on the K and L lines might be compatible at a low level.
Its possible that a very few high end multi marque scanners like those made by Snapon may have explicit support for early models of Citroen but functionality would be limited compared to a Lexia. If a 3rd party scanner doesn't explicitly list the Xantia Series 1 then it won't be compatible. Sorry
For a Xantia a Lexia really is the only option, and fortunately they're not that expensive now.

Thanks for you reply Mandrake & I'll give it a go & interested in seeing if i can communicate using an Automatic Test Equipment by GenRad or not to see if it's possible!I could have a go with Blink codes & an LED!!!

Re: Xantia 30 pin Brown diagnostic socket pinout diagram
I’ve worked out & paired up the mentioned above connections to make a interconnecting harness (male going back to female) which connects after the psa 16 pin end, this is to make it J1962 obd-2 propriety connector wired, (I’m not saying it will work out yet & understand what Mandrake is saying,I’ve yet to test if the generic tester can communicate with the xantia protocols, I’ll have a go at the weekend due to brother having the tester at his house, out of interest I noted down the pin configurations of the Lexia 30 pin(brown connector) to 16 pin lead & how it was connected, A1--- 12V Perm goes to pin 13, A2--- 12+ switched goes to pin 16, A1---Earth goes to pin 12, C1--- K line goes to pin10, C2 L line goes to pin 2, so there was only one connection of A2 to pin 16 which complied with to the ODD standard really.
Meanwhile I’ve made up a Blink code tester to trial out first. Using an LED tester, I connected the negative end to C3 of the 30 pin brown “Frankenstein” Diagnostic Socket in the fuse box & connected the positive end to 12V(I used the cigar lighter for 12v, but could of used pin A1), then I grounded pin C2(L line Iso bus) for 5 seconds & I got the start of the sequence code (12, which is 1 led flash followed by 2 flashes, morse code is fun!!), then I ground C2 again for a few seconds & got the trouble code flash 51 in morse, I looked up to The DTC fault 51 & it's probable cause is “heated oxygen sensor(HO2S), Wiring, Exhuast Leak, Relay Module, Oxygen sensor Heater Relay, ECM. I then ground C2 again for a few seconds & got flash of 11(end of sequence).
I now need to understand what is at fault, I’ve got a new conical gasket on the exhaust manifold end as It used to blow a little there after I fitted a new cat a few years ago which would upset that Oxygen sensor at mot time & the fuel parts fitted Oxygen sensor is less the 3 years old, Just looking at the wiring diagram & can see Fuse F11 & pins C1 & C2 is the used for the heater of the oxygen sensor & the relay looks like it’s part of the engine multifunction relay on pin 6 for controlling the heater element side of things, Question is has anyone had this fault code before & got any suggestions to what it would normally relate to? Thanks...

Re: Xantia 30 pin Brown diagnostic socket pinout diagram
I have found a web link for Citroën blink codes information from AutoData 2004 for DTC(Diagnostic Trouble Codes), this may be useful to others, it includes connecting up the LED tester & The Trouble code Identifications for the flash type, this includes many variants eg. AX, Berlingo, C3, C5, c8,c15 ,Picasso, Saxo, Xantia, XM, Xsara, ZX, it may be useful for people without access to a Lexia for fault finding purposes
