Can anyone advice, when in 5th gear i get a drowning noise,only in 5th and only under load.

I'm assuming you mean a DRONING noise.
If its speed related (rather then gear related) it could be knackered driveshafts. My ZX would do that above 70mph until I got them changed. (Obviously, this was only in 5th gear - its a 1.4!) It was only at certain load conditions too - see if it stops if you press the clutch.
