The green VSX is beautiful, my favorite colour combination, and automatic too. How bad are the 2.0i petrol autos on juice?

Horrific in my limited experience. I had one as a courtesy car a couple of years ago when my Activa was in the garage over Xmas.

After a couple of runs up North and loads of buzzing around here, I was glad to get the relatively economical Activa back!

Oh dear.. the activa has been removed from ebay.

The 17k vsx is good but id expect to need to fit spheres UNLESS they have been done in course of time with them getting hard.

Someone else on here bought a low mage diesel estate.. what was it 9k miles from up here near me and that needed spheres. As for economy.. id also bet dreadfull. The petrol manuals dont do amazingly so coupled to a mechanical auto box hmmmmm

C'mon Mike, no way is the 2.0i VSX Auto as thirsty as a TCT Turbo Activa.

I had one for 4 years and it never did below 24 mpg for stop start around town driving, and that was me driving with a fairly leaden foot most of the time. On long motorway trips it did 33mpg fully loaded with passengers and luggage. I doubt you were doing better in an Activa.

I would suggest that the one you drove wasn't running as well as it could be, or your foot is even heavier than mine..

By the way the second one that claims to be a VSX, I don't think it is a VSX, but rather an SX.

Why ? Manual seats (you can see the manual seat adjuster in the corner of one of the pictures) and no steering wheel air bag. A VSX should have electric seats and a drivers airbag.

If we could see (or not see) a sport button in front of the manual height lever we would know for sure as all VSX's definitely had Hydractive 2, but its out of shot in the photos...

Still a nice car though.

Edit: ok time to eat crow. I didn't notice there were more pictures, it has a sport button and thick pipes to the strut tops so it is a VSX ! Didn't realise you guys got VSX's over here without electric seats and airbag...

I've just noticed on those VSX pictures the bonnet has a full felt lining on the underside - and realised that my S2 Exclusive doesn't have any felt lining under the bonnet at all. :?

Is mine missing the felt or was it removed in the S2 ?

Have you ever owned an Activa, or any TCT powered cars Simon? I'm not really sure I care much for the "tone" of your post..

Both my Activa which I had for about 18 months, and the one I used for a few months after that averaged out at 28mpg. My
TCT Auto XM Estate averaged 29.5mpg according to the trip computer, over the six months I owned it.

The XM would do over 36mpg at a steady 70mph being careful , the Activa possibly more, but it averaged 35mpg last time I took it on a long run - a 600 mile trip up North and back in temperatures as low as -12c.

As for the VSX Auto, other than it being smooth, I can't think of another reason to recommend it. Slow, thirsty, and quite ponderous in it's handling. To say it never averaged below 24mpg as some sort of plaudit is simply bizarre. My 260BHP Impreza averaged more than that, and would do an honest 35mpg on the motorway at sane speeds.

Yes, maybe the VSX I drove wasn't running right. It certainly felt smooth enough, it had around 90k on it IIRC. You'd have to take that up with Ray Williams, the long established Citroen Specialist in Burnham, as it was his courtesy car...

Mike the "tone" of my post was a friendly tongue in check prod, you have a knack for taking comments the wrong way...

If 28mpg from your Activa is a "combined" figure, its no better than what I got in my 2.0i Auto. It never dipped below 24mpg in constant urban stop/start 30mph driving, motorway was 33mpg, "combined" would have averaged around 28mpg.

Given that a lot of power is lost in the automatic gearbox (the 4HP14 is a simple minded hydro-mechanical box and only locks up in top gear) that tells me that the 2.0i engine is quite a lot more fuel efficient than the TCT turbo but only looses most of its lead due to the auto box. In manual form the 2.0i would handily beat the TCT for fuel economy. (look up the figures if you don't believe me)

As for a VSX having "quite ponderous" handling, I really can't take that remark seriously! Compared to an Activa, maybe. Compared to any normal saloon, no way.

Perhaps the one you drove had 185/65/15 tyres on it - standard fitment on many VSX's for some reason. (I've always said 185/65/15 is under-shod on a Hydractive 2 Xantia) I changed my VSX to Michelin XM1 205/60/15 and the difference in handling and grip was phenomenal. In no way was it ponderous, it stuck to the road like glue. It could have done with a bit more power but was otherwise an excellent car to drive and chuck around corners.
