C5 III: Seat memory not working

Unread post by Martin Mortensen »

Hello.

I recently retrofitted electric front seats with memory, massage, heat etc. to my C5

Adjustment of the electric seats works fine, however I cannot save the seat positions to the memory.

Does anyone have a good idear on what to check or what might be missing?

Regards.

Let's take it from the top:

Image

Are you following the procedure from the manual? (I'm guessing you are, but just to check) ... If the procedure doesn't result in the saving of the positions, than the next step would be to check the electrical part of the wiring and the control module (the seats should have one) ...

EDIT: Lexia programming should also be involved when doing any electrical work on the electrical seats, have you done that already?

Thanks for the reply and sorry about my late response.

Wireing and programming should be OK, however I need to verify this.

I've noticed my car always goes into "economy mode", should it be possible to input new seat positions into the memory in economy mode?, or could this be the reason?

Doubt it very much. Car in economy mode has limited functions, and I wouldn't think memory seats would be important enough to be one of them. Why can't you follow the memory procedure with the engine running?
The memory function might require enabling via a Lexia session. Are you in the UK? There may be a forum member with a Lexia/Diagbox near you .

Martin, it might be a good idea to put the details of your car, age, engine, spec, manual/auto etc. into your signature on your profile so that it shows up in your posts ,then members will be able to help if they can.

Hi "qprdude"

Thanks for the reply.

It was my understanding that the car should be with power but with motor off, to access the memory feature, but I guess not?

I should be able to find someone with a Lexia in Denmark.

I have added my car details in the signature, thanks for the pointer.

You can program memory with engine on and even driving.
To recall the memory when in park it's a single press, but when moving its a very long press.

I have the same problem with economy mode. I'm told it is a battery problem but I am not about to dump it as it starts the car very well . Economy mode is supposed to give the same amount of time as the car engine has been running, up to a maximum of 30 minutes. Mine sometimes works and sometimes not, so perhaps I set my memory seats while the engine was off and economy mode had not kicked in. Hope you get it working. You will probably have the "comfort entry/exit" function as well, where the seat moves back for easy exit as the ignition is switched off, and moves forward after you get in and switch on.

The "Comfort entry/exit" actually works after I enabled this in the menu, and it does remember the positions correctly.

However the memory function is not working, which I find a bit strange.

I did nothing to enable this function via Lexia, as I don't have this, so this might be the fix.

During comfort exit, I need to open the door as well before the seat moves back.

I presume this is by design?

Yes, sorry, I have to open the door too. I think a session with a Diagbox might be required.

I think that it is a genuine design feature. If you think about it, how else can the car 'know' you are getting out, and not just stopped for a while.

You might also find that the key is relevant to the seat memory system. When I read through the handbook to a company Skoda Octavia, I found that, if I had the electric seats the memory function was linked to the keys (I believe this included the seat and wing mirror positions), so if key A was put into the ignition the settings configured when that key was used would be recalled, while the settings for key B would come into play when that key was used. This could allow for multiple drivers without the frustration of having to keep re-setting the seats, etc.

Still working on this.

Does anyone know if the memory buttons (M, 1 & 2) should be backlit?, so it's easy to see them in the dark, like the radio and AC.

Mine are not currently.

Just maybe, since they're not backlit, maybe the wiring wasn't completed as it should be?

Yes, that would be my conclusion also.

I was suspecting this, which is why I asked about the button lights.

Thanks again.
