C15 Diode problem

Post by Ben*17 »

Hi all, I have posted this problem before but am still no clearer. I have a 1.9 2005 C15 that has had a variety of issues, which now are mostly sorted. The only problem I have now is that I have had to replace a diode that I discovered in amongst a load of wires under the air filter. I knew that the diode was a 1N4007 diode but I am confused about which way around to attach the new one. I should mention that I managed to destroy the original. The diode is in a small plastic case with a wire coming in that has 12v when the ignition is on, the other side seems to go to an earth. I have been told that the side of the diode with the stripe is for the output but if I connect it up that way around as soon as I turn on the ignition it blows the fuse for the ECU and blows the diode. If I connect it up the other way around it just doesnt make any sense to me.
It anyone can clear this up for me I would be very grateful.

Cheers

Ben
