Xantia gear box oil

Post by jaypee »

I have recently had my 97 Xantia 1.9TD estate serviced. Just done over 100k so also had gearbox oil changed.
Since then, I noticed that when the engine/gearbox are cold like in the morning, it is hard to switch into 2nd gear (from 1st to 2nd as well as from 3rd to 2nd...). Once warm all is ok. I wonder if the garage maybe used the wrong type oil or could there be something else going on.

Sounds as though they've put treacle in the box. I would take it up with them.

Sounds like they defaulted to EP90 oil instead of 80

Use the real BV oil (£2.99/litre from GSF/Andyspares). Have a search through the forum for "BV" and you'll see why.
