2002 c5 hdi cutting out problem,.

heres the deal , I bought a citroen c5 hdi yesterday , been mint all day , tonight I take the fuel pump out the tank to look at the gauge sender , put it back and it starts fine , get 10 mins up the road and the eml comes on and the car cuts out ,

I have to lock and unlock on remote to get it to start but the eml stays on , then it runs for a shorter time each time before it cuts out,

anyone know if the pump in the tank needs calibrating??,

I admit I did turn the engine over for a second with the tank pump unplugged , but started straight away when reconnected again ,

any ideas people?? thanks

No they shouldn't need any calibrating..

why did you take the pump out in the first place as its not the run of the mill thing you check on a car

to check the fuel sender as the fuel gauge seemed to be playing up,.

A I see. if you leave the ignition on or when filling up the gauge tends to not move until the key has been taking out and the put back in

think we are going to need a special 'HDi October problem forum' at this rate.., is that 4 now that are failing as of a week or two ago,,,

great engines but,,,

A description of all the parts on the fuel system, the expected Lexia readings of good parts, common methods to try and pinpoint problems etc etc

well I tried plugging it in to a code reader and neither I tried would work with the car ,

I have a 206 hdi for parts,
so I tried the tanks fuel pump , the same

cam senser , the same

fuel rail , the same

its at the point it wont come out a limp mode and is running approx. 5 seconds before it cuts out till you lock and unlock , that wont even always work 1st time,.

ahh ok.. someone near there may have the correct Diagnostic eqt .. there is a map on the forum.. I in a rush now ..someone else will pinpoint it

just had the aa out so they can plug it in , swapped fpr then cleared codes and was fine for 5 mins then started again
