C5 - Front Suspension Doesn't Go Up And Down..!!

Post by hamster99 »

Well, finally finished the turbo change and everything works great except that the front suspension doesn't go up and down. Rear suspension is fine.

Do you think something needs to be reset? Could it be related to the anti-roll bar which I took off when I removed the front sub-frame?

Cheers

Rob
certainly could as the height corrector is connected to the anti roll bar,

Thanks Malcolm
How do I reset the height?
I didn't do anything to the adjuster apart from remove it from the sub-frame and disconnect it. The bracket connected to the anti-roll bar I left in place!
Will I need a Lexia session?
Cheers

There is a fine height adjustment in the ECU that the Lexia can do but you need to be in the ball park first with the clamp or it will be out of range, so you need to get the height close by adjusting the clamp first.

I can't see why you couldn't get the height correct purely by adjusting the clamp like you did on older Citroen's, no need for the Lexia if you're accurate with your setting of the clamp.

What I can't understand is why it has changed at all? I didn't remove any clamps and its in the same position now I have refitted it to the subframe as it was before.
All I did was:
-Disconnect the wiring
-Remove the single bolt that fixes it the subframe
-Refix it to the subframe
-Reconnect the plug
Nothing else.....!!!
So, if I now need to reset the front suspension height, is there a step by step guide either on here or somewhere else that I can follow?

Mine looks like it has a metal connector rod with ball joints either end. Seems to be all there.

Yes, I disconnected it to remove the subframe.
Will a system reset sort it out or a Lexia?

i dont know much about the C5 system's, but you could try disconnecting the battery for a while,

before doing that i would ask Steve ( myglaren ) for his guide to disconnecting a C5 battery

check that the link rod is positioned at the bottom of the sensor as it might of spun round when you had it off if its at the top it wont report anything back

Hi All
Managed to get under the car today and, yep, the sensor had got turned around when the roll bar was taken off. Have now positioned it correctly and reset the roll bar ends (50mm below the subframe as per haynes!) and tightened everything up.
Started her up and hey presto the front suspension, after a bit of pursuasion (seemed to have got stuck a bit probably due to 3 weeks of inactivity) now moves up and down when buttons pressed.
Only issue at the moment is that the front does seem to be a little higher than I remember it and ride seems a bit hard and bouncy when I just took it down the road for a short drive.
Is it possible that the ride height could have changed slightly when everything got taken off? How can I check if it's correct or not?
Thanks

i would say only if you loosened/moved the height linkage clamp attached to the anti roll bar its self,

No, I didn't move or loosen the clamp on the roll bar, so I guess maybe the height is correct although I do think it is a little higher than I remember it. Maybe it's not.

Does anyone know what the official citroen spec on standard suspension height would be measured between ground and wheel arch (or bottom of subframe). Surely there must be a measurement somewhere otherwise how do the dealers make sure it's correct when they do any work on it?
