C.Morewoods Odd Strut unions

Post by citroenxm »

Looked a bit closer at the HDi90 thats in for breaking... Its one of the odd batch of cars with the larger unions on 3.5mm pipes At the STRUT end only from the looks of it..

This is what they look like...

It's MorEwood Paul:-)
Once I get hold of these I'll go along to some of the suppliers in Aberdeen and see if they are a stock item.. or at least can be got hold of easily..If not I'll make upnew pipes for my car and have the others on loan to members.

Oooppps. it is sorry.. corrected now.

Do you want me to save the pipes or litterally just the unions?

Whats the harm of making your own? Not sure what the thread pitch or size is but if a bolt the same size can be found whats the harm in drilling a 3.5mm hole through it.. then flaring your own pipe after. Im gonna try that for the other set of strut tops and make some adapter pipes for them to sell on..

Well Paul I thought it might be easier to get just the unions sent up here.
I had ordered a new pipe... yes I found one, from a dealer but having orderd it from his supplier , it arrived damaged and had to be sent back.
So I thought just sending the unions in the post would minimise the chance for damage and also allow me to have new pipes which i would coat with some shrink plastic to protect them?
I never thought of making my own.
I take it that the RPO was within the accepted range? You said you were going to make sure Monday.
Off up to Shetland for a couple of days from Wed so I won't be able to reply from then till Sat.

I believe Paul has discovered that the odd pipe unions fitted to Xantia suspension cylinders RPO 8209 -8518 are a standard fit on C5's
I'm multi posting this just in case it can help someone searching in the future

I only did a visual on the struts Chris..

I removed your unions today.... What lies behind the union is gonna make them ummm unique and un makeable again!

I think the way to go on these small batch of cars for the future is to swap the rear cylinders back to older types..

Heres why...

Image

Image

Image

YES, it is what you see! NO thats NOT a rubber seal! Yes thats a small nylon end seal, and YES that pipe end is flared at the tip!

The pipe came out like that... the metal "Block" is a VERY tight fit on the pipe, I had to grip it with pliers before the pipe would turn in it..

There NO rubber seal. and, heres the view inside of the strut pipe orface...

Image

So, im not sure what to make of it... me? Id be inclined to change the rear struts back to older ones, and standard compatability...

Thats different to my fittings Paul I just have a small black O ring at the bottom, which is a pig if you loose it and really difficult to seat in the cylinder opening as it faces downwards and always wants to drop out... I guess they've changed the design again.

So we need to have a donor C5 to really check Paul? I'll see what I can find.

The mk1 c5 hdi90 hatch rear pipes are nothing like those pics above I can say from my own hated experience.
