picasso hdi advice

Post by boristhespie »

Can't get a c5 for decent money up here so have decided to get a picasso as a second car. Thing is should I avoid a FAP model of engine. Likely 1.6 110bhp but also maybe 90bhp.

Most driving will be 70 mph type driving but also a bit around town but not sitting in traffic.

im not sure which have what,
but you need to have a good prod at the door sills, as Piscasoooos semm to suffer with serious sill rot/rust,
the one i dealt with a couple of months back i fitted a full new sill to,
on removing to old sill all the drain slots were completely blocked solid with the rubberised coating the factory apply to the underside of the body shell/floor pan,,

there have been a few case's of this coming up on the cit related forums over the last year or so,

look for any blistering of the stone guard coating which is applied under the paint on the lower section of the door sill,

have a good prod even if there is not sign of blistering, as the stone guard holds the sill together even if there is rot going on,

this company do sell Piscasoooo door sills even though they are not show in there listings

There are loads of cheap C5s about on ebay, look at this one for instance:

I live in north east Scotland. Plenty c5s south but up here not so much and expensive. I's get nore for my c5 at 112k now than I paid for it at 55k 2 years ago.

Anyway picasso is FAP good or bad?

Is the 110bho 1.6 hdi engine good or better with 2ltr?

I'd have the 90bhp 2.0 HDi any day of the week over the 1.6 HDi. None of the 2.0's have FAP or a DMF for starters.

The 1.6 hdi has a few issues, so go for the 2.0 ltr.

You will only get a 92bhp 2.0 in a Picasso, but IMO it is well worth it over the 1.6.

The 1.6HDi is a very good engine . . . when it's right . . . but if anything is just slightly out of kilter it's a pain in the arse to sort. The oil has to be fully synthetic 5w/30 and changed every 3k miles ( you can go to 5k/6k if you wish but you've been warned), the oil feed pipes, banjo bolts, sump and anything else oil wise has to be spotless. If not wave bye bye to the turbo.

The injectors have a mind of their own and will need refurbing and calibrating at some point around 100k - if you're lucky enough to get them that far. And should it need a new dpf you'll need to find out if it is within the cat or not (£100 extra), top up the bottle near the fuel tank and reset it on the computer.

Stick with the 2ltr.
