Hi all
I just bought a Xantia 1.9 TD, my second xantia as I already have a 2.0 HDi 90.
Problems:
Rev counter looks like it has gone right round the dial and got stuck at the bottom. It is completely lifeless?
None of the interior lights work, bit annoying in the dark... I checked the handbook for the fuses etc but it isn't those.
Other than that, minor things I can sort!
Thanks

I have all the interior light units from a mk2 and all are working and clean as well if you need them and its not just the bulbs but for all of them to go its a bit strange!

I have two xantia's 1x 2000 HDI 90 and 1x 1999 TD, neither cars have ever had working interior lights in my ownership? The HDI rear number plate lights are out too but it has never failed MOT on them (twice)KP wrote:I have all the interior light units from a mk2 and all are working and clean as well if you need them and its not just the bulbs but for all of them to go its a bit strange!

rev counter a common fault.. you may be lucky with a paperclip in the odometer hole.. push needle and will should revert back to normal..#often caused by starting car with a flat battery.#
int lights.. not sure.. wiring diagram needed there..

If the interior lights are set correctly at least one door opening should trigger them.
If not im sure there is a relay that activates them which could have failed. Be strange if the relays in both cars have gone but i cant think of any other common parts off the top of my head as mine have always worked and lovingly dimmed gently on door closure

Very odd that no door operates the interior lights. However, KP has triggered a thought - could it be the dimmer unit itself that has failed? Sorry I haven't a clue where it's located. If it's failed, then maybe it could be by-passed, so that at least the interior lights would then function, albeit without the dimmer facility

Will await a knowledgeable type to confirm relay/dimmer situation... Would be nice to get both cars interior lighting working with the long dark nights drawing in!
RE the rev counter, I tried the paperclip method but there is no chance I am doing that without a total fluke! Anybody got a step by step guide to whipping out the cluster so I can take apart to attempt a fix? I can't stand looking at it not working it's bothering me like an itch you can't scratch!!

Clocks removal (just done it tonight to change all non working bulbs.)
SERIES TWO CARS: Ones with Single Dash Piece right across the clock to the drivers right hand vent..
Remove your radio.. pull ash tray out, two Torx screws holding the surround (assuming you have Dash Flush Radio)
Remove radio surround trim.. remove two screws each side of radio.. pull radio out.
Up under the dash trim theres FOUR torx screws under there to remove.
Now remove the colum trim surrounds... NO NEED to remove steering wheel. Two at the front (acess from under the shrouds) one lower down, seperate the two shrouds.
behind there to the left and right of the colum on the under edge of the trim is two more screws...
Now lower the Flap to the fuse box.. Remove the one screw to the LEFT of the Flap's catch..
Now to the left of that plastic trim quater is another torx screw.. Remove it, then pull the quater plastic trim left side first. You'll see whay when you remove it. You may need to lower the cover flap catch section a bit to help free it.
Behind this quarter is another torx screw at the right hand END of the trim.. Remove that too..
The trim should move forwards slightly, to help you gain access to the switch's.. Remove the plugs from the switch's dont worry the plugs have coloured corresponding Dots to the switch's. Watch the clock plug.. its a bit of a fiddly plug.
Theres three screws holding the clocks in, one at the top facing downwards, and two along bottom.. remove them
Lever the clocks carefully from the top and draw them forwards. Release the plugs and the harness from the guides..
remove the clocks, and tip them over to bring the needle back to rest.
Reassemble!

Just thinking about your interior lights..
Which lights arent working? The Dimmer, located on the lower colum shroud only works the Dash illumination. but they wont work at all if its disconnected or faulty...
But do you mean the B pillar lamps?? They could be bulbs blown.. but I guess thats too simple.
Does the "Door Open" light under the revcounter come on when you open the doors??

Paul think/guess the dimmer in this case is a unit that dims the interior lights after a few seconds., not the dash dimmer.

Yes the dash light comes on to indicate door is open. All the interior lights are dead, top of the B-Pillar and at the grab handles etc. Dash lights up fine bar the fuel guage and heater controls but suspect they are bulbs/LED's (can be done on speedo removal).
So literally just the cabin lights, they don't dim, they don't switch on, nothing.... That is both my cars too!

Re: Xantia 1.9TD 1999 - help needed
I had a similar problem on Gracie, in that one of the interior lights didn't work (but not a blown bulb). I popped off the light, opened it up, and used contact cleaner on the switch. Problem solved, so I did the same on the other side.

Re: Xantia 1.9TD 1999 - help needed
Fixed the interior light issue, it was electrical contacts in the HDi so that is kind of cool that they now work and the TD was passenger side bulb not in properly and drivers side no bulb at all :S WTF?
Anyway, what are the bulbs as I put the interior lights back in and didn't make note of the number/type to buy another?
Cheers

They are W5W bulbs. I think the Xantias also use them for the side lights.
