Hi Chaps,
My father has just bought a 2001 C5 with with say nav built in.
However, the Sat Nav screen seems to be completely dead, that said the other day it did flicker at me so there is power going to it. The other thing is the CD player that is built into the radio does work and looking at another post it could be caused by the same thing.
Further to the above, the sat nav DVD didn't come with the car.
My questions are as follows, would not having a cd in the unit on the right had side of the steering wheel next to my right leg stop the display from not working?
Is the that unit also the ecu?
Does anyone have a cd I could copy to give to my dad?
What can I try to get it working? I have already looked at the connection at the back of the screen and that seemed fine.
Thanks,
Ollie

Re: C5 Sat Nav Screen Not Working
I've also got a 2001 model C5. (large colour screen) Having no cd in there wouldn't stop the display from working, just the sat nav menus.
I've got the original cd's - one is setup (software) data, the other is the map data. However they're quite out of date now, I'm after an up to date map cd myself. If you get the display going I'm sure I could still post you a copy though.

You can get the latest software and more up to date maps here http://www.filecrop.com/rt2-vdo.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
You will need to burn a CD with ImgBurn or similar. This can be a bit hit and miss depending on the burner and the CD-r you use. TDK are supposed to be most compatible.
May be worth having a go at this also

Hi Chaps,
Thanks for your responses, and thank you monkeyfeet for offering to send a copy over. Dad has tried the power off thing but nothing unfortunately. I'm just keeping my eye open for a breaking exclusive that we can pillage some parts from and go from there.
If we get that working I'll give you a shout re CDs and try downloading the latest maps.
Thanks,
Ollie

Give Phil Hunt a ring, there IS one in my old car sitting in his yard...and it works
I would think he will do it by cheque if you are not local....He is a trustworthy guys so you deal with him with confidence.
He IS not a fan of "the Tinternet" (old school) and he is NOT a scrap yard so approach him gently with this in mind to persuade him to part with it.
