I decided this morning to have a look at a couple of things, I had to use the horn last night due to Another Utter D**khead Inside, Total T*t version, trying to drive me off the road :grr: :grr: :grr: anyway pressed the horn button expecting to give him a blast of the two horns and more of a polite 'excuse me'............ WTF? I changed the horn that was defective the other week for a good working one..... so this morning out I go and strip the wheel arch liner back, both the horns are wired up, and so that I unplugged one and that worked, so disconnect that and reconnect the other........... NOTHING!! and then the penny dropped, I must have replaced the original defective horn with....... yes..... you've guessed the original defective horn    and to make matters worse I've thrown the good one :taz: :taz: :taz:

So after a bit of swearing a cursing, I decided to tackle the starting mod.............. once I had a look at the underside of the the relay's, cowardice got the better of me and I've decided to leave it until I can get someone else to do it.......

Thanks Will, I've asked Paul to fetch me some bits to the X-Rally and added one on after giving him a good laugh this morning......

That isn't cowardice, it is recognising the limit of your abilities. How many things get broken because somebody thought they knew what they were doing, and then found out they didn't! What you need to do is to ask somebody else to do it, and also ask if you can watch so that you can learn.

Well it looks like I'm going to have to bite the bullet with the starter issue, the last couple of days have seen an increase in the amount of times the key needed turning before the starter decided to work. I was hoping to seek it out until the Northern Rally, but given the date change, I can't get there as we will be in sunnier climbs......... I hope.

I'm off on Tuesday so I think I will do it then, not looking forward to doing it though.......

Well, Arrangements are in place to go over and sort the starter problem tomorrow, all I need to do then is work out how I'm going to get the gearbox switch over and fitted, once that's done she'll be almost done and dusted....... [-o<

I take it you're having the standard starter relay mod done Steve.. All of 'em need it sooner or later... It's a good permanent fix and on an S1 without headlight washers the relay can be hidden in the fuse box so it looks like a factory job..

What's the problem with the gearbox switch?

Steves is an exclusive so think it will have the washer relay :(

Should be fun as I don't think I have had to do this mod before but I'm sure between us we can get it done, hopefully I have enough tools and a soldering iron and horrid non lead based solder if needed and some shrink wrap somewhere as well :)

All S1 V6 Xantias were Exclusives Will but some were more exclusive than others. Mine for instance had no headlight washers, no heated seats and no sunroof and that was quite normal for the average S1 V6...

Steve's might just be an exclusive Exclusive with a few options fitted... Ir was only the later S2 V6s that came with all the toys as standard...

EDIT: I posted a guide to doing the job ages ago now... No idea now where it might be...

Looking at the photos on the first page I cannot see any headlight washers, so that relay position should be available.

Yeah, Jim that's right, just the standard starter mod...... it's been getting steadily worse and I've been putting it off, mainly because I don't feel that confident doing something I'm not sure about....... and no, mine doesn't have the washers so that should make things a bit easier, Oh and I've got the diagram of yours, plus the bits and pieces from Mike's list of things he used for doing his.
CitroJim wrote:What's the problem with the gearbox switch?
It has an intermittent problem where it will either start in first and not change up, or start in forth and not change down, both are these are diagnosed by a 'double thump' from the gearbox when going from forward to reverse and vice versa. Mike has very graciously offered me the one at Paul's from the WFA group engine and box.

Ahh right, all understood on the gearbox issue now...
Trainman wrote: Mike has very graciously offered me the one at Paul's from the WFA group engine and box.
Mike? Mike who??? No-one in WFA called Mike unless we have a new member in which I'm no longer a third but just a quarter...

Whatever Mike might have said Steve, you know you're very welcome indeed to that particular switch. The 'box is destined for spares holding and has no immediate destination. It's an annoying fault you have there and if I remember rightly that problem stated when the car was in Roger's ownership. I went armed with Lexia to have a look but could not reproduce the fault at the time. It'll be good to nail it once and for all...

Reminds me we must make that trip to Paul's to collect our goodies and to see Paul too of course :-D
