Well the new headlight bulbs have arrived today to replace the current candles, also the switches have arrived, however, they have the memory function on them, so not sure if they will fit

Replacing them with glow-worms are you Steve? I'm afraid you may still be not entirely happy with them compared to the C6 but much better results can be obtained by doing the relay modification whereby dipped beams are supplied via a relay straight from the battery rather than the light switch and the concomitant voltage drop that destroys the light output.

My Activa is so modified and it's a world of difference.

Another job to add to the list for Paul to do

To be be fair, Jim, i'm not comparing them with the C6 I just want something that actually gives out light..... I've got with Xenon Ice Blue which replaces all the front bulbs for £15, it's another gamble but anything is better than the current set up

They will certainly make a fair difference Steve. It's amazing how the light output from cheap bulbs is poor and falls markedly as they age.

You have headlight washers Steve so legally you could get away with a low power hid upgrade which would be worlds ahead of it. It's a mod I'm considering for the long term xm as they are worse than the xantias ;(

I hope the upgrade helps a lot though :)

I did toy with the idea of the HID upgrade, but not sure what's involved, plus I need to get this other work done first, this is cheap and easy fix for the moment.

I need to check when the timing belt was changed, that will be another job for Paul. The list seems to be getting longer than shorter....joys of motoring

An older cars list will always get longer unless it's stripped back to bare metal and then put back together I've learned :(

The hid upgrade isn't too bad as it draws it's power from the battery and merely uses the original feed as a relay switch :)

I've changed the sidelight bulbs to LED w5w that I had lying about and replaced the headlamp bulbs at the same time, if you look closely you can see 4 light where the sidelight fit's that's the LED the first picture shows the LED and old bulbs

Image

This picture shows the LED and new 'Ice blue' Xenon bulbs

Image

This one shows the difference with the Near side on old bulbs and the offside on the Xenon's

Image

I've still got the H3 bulbs to replace in the fog lights which I'll have a go at tomorrow.

I'm loving your light-up numberplate Steve :-D

The difference is staggering isn't it and should help enormously in these dark and gloomy days to come...
