Dad picked the engine up yesterday.

To make things easier:
Original XM engine - old
Replacement - new

They decided that the new block, crankshaft and head was in a better state to recondition. I was expecting them to use the crank from the old but the thrust bearing is knackered. They managed to do a bit of work on the botched keyway on the new.

So in summary they have done the following:
Completely reconditioned head (they went through everything, it looks brand new!)
Faced block
Glaze busted bores
New bearings
Reconditioned crankshaft
Reconditioned con rods
Complete gasket set
New head bolts

All for under £500

I've also got a new set of pistons and rings to go in. This is going to be lovely when it's all back together. Pretty much a new engine

Kev, that's excellent

I'm delighted those pistons and rings have finally found a good home rather than living a useless life in my attic and that all has turned out good and our trip down with the new engine was beneficial

Anorak will be in the post as soon as I can procure a suitable package to send it in...
