Citroen C5 Power Steering Faulty!

Post by begins »

Hi all,

I got this message" Stop: Power Steering faulty" when I started the car yesterday morning. The steering was very heavy and felt unsafe to drive around.
I checked the LDS level and it was filled. I don't see leakages from the bottom of the car too. I reset the battery but to no avail. So I have no car to drive for the day.

When I returned home in the evening, the message disappeared and I drove the car around the neighbourhood for a while.

This morning, the same error message appeared and I'm stuck with a heavy steering :( .

Can any kind souls advised me what to check or lookout for? The electric power steering pump costs a bomb and I wonder could it be one of those fuse has been blown?

Thank you very much.

I doubt a fuse has blown, as (albeit for a while) the steering came back, and the error disappeared. Other than that, I cannot help, as I have no C5 knowledge.

Unless they have changed it in the most recent model of C5 then only the suspension pump is electric, the power steering pump is driven by the engine.
The two systems share the same fluid reservoir. It is possible that your fluid level is low and the steering is starved and or has air in it.
Which will not be good for the pump at the very least.
Check LDS level.

I did lower the suspension to check the LDS level and it is full (almost at the brink). Are you saying that the power steering pump is driven by belt?
I'm at the loss on what to do next..iI borrowed a car from someone and I just banged into someone car, not used to the braking distance...really stress.

Like everything else, the steering system is tied into the BSI.
I've had the odd glitch during Lexia sessions when the warning was displayed and the steering became heavy, although it was mechanically fine.
Have you had any other odd messages etc? Might be down to a failing battery.

Check the condition of your battery. If the battery isn't on the top line, after starting the power steering fails. Run the engine for awhile, switch off and then restart. Very often the steering will be back to normal.

Hi all,

Can any kind souls here help me to find out the part number of my power steering pump? There are so many variants out there, 4xx7xx so I wonder if they can universally applied?

Mine is a Citroen C5 year 2007 2.0L petrol 16v (VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]).

Thank you very much.

Mine did this. It was the battery.

Can any kind souls point me to car part dealer that have a reasonably priced pump for my Citroen C5? The part number is 4007qh.

Thank you very much.

Theres a good few on ebay UK and some with international postage.

Have you fully checked the battery as a fair few C5's are still running the original unit these days?

I doubt it is the battery fault. The battery is new and tested ok.

Hi all,

I just ordered an OEM power steering pump at here:

http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinf ... &cc=216895" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I really hope I bought the right thing as the description simply said it is meant for Citroen C5 Year 2007 2.0L Petorl.
Can the experts here confirm with me whether our original pulley has 6 ribs or not?

Thank you very much.

I finally resolved this problem.
After unnecessarily changing the servo pump (expensive!), my mechanic came to the problem and the solution. Actually the electronic guy solved the problem.
The problem was in the car computer, some 'grounding' issue. Unfortunately, do not know more details, but it definitely solved the problem.
Hope this helps.
