Xantia Passenger Door Lock not working.

Post by gadgetgricey »

Basically the when clicking the central locking the doors lock, but then open again as the passenger door is not locking.
Can lock the car from the passenger door, and also confirmed its this one by pushing the knob down when in the car.

Where's the best place to start with this. Does not seem to be a "connector" block visible in the door jam, just a set of wires leading into the door.
Also are all the door locks the same, as actually have a spare for a passenger rear door if compatible.

Thanks again

The front locks can have 3 switches in them, while the rear locks only have 1 switch.

Which door lock is it? There are (technically) 3 passenger doors, and a drivers' door. I hope you don't mean nearside front. What is likely to have happened is for the wiring to have failed (usually in the concertina grommet), and there is very little space to work if it is the front one. I had problems with both rear doors, and had plenty of room. Both locks now work properly.

OR, the connection to the Lock inside the door has gone a bit dry and lost is conecttivity..

I had this on an L reg Xantia, bouncing locks, assuming it was the lock I stripped the door down, and took the plug off, but then for some reason pushed the plug back on and tried, and it worked! So, either one of the wires as james says, or the plug on the lock itself, remove the plug and refit it again.

Yep, Just my luck - Nearside front.

Spookily Paul, found your earlier post about the connection to the lock. Was going to try that first :-D

I presume there should be voltage to the connector, and a "spike" when the doors are locked. If I disconnected the conector and left the door locked manually, would the other doors then work on the central locking blip.

Cheers

No, it wont, it checks a particular contact has been made as James says on the switchs inside. If these are made the door locks, otherwise it throws them open.. which is whats happening.. One of the switch's is not being made. I DOUBT very much indeed its the lock itself, they are very reliable. Its either the plug or a wire.

TRY DAVE: sitting in the car, press the passenger lock down then press the drivers one down, and see if she locks then.

It will give the techincal an idea of which switch is not being made

I would not bet on it. IIRC one of the 3 switches monitors the barrel, the second monitors the button, while the third monitors the lock status. If a wire HAS failed (I REALLY hope not!) then the central locking cannot see what is happening with the lock (whichever bit isn't working), and so defaults to the unlocked option.

When I first got Gracie, the NSR was deadlocked and non-responsive, while the OSR could be locked/unlocked manually, but was not on the C/L. A couple of hours with some lengths of wire, a soldering iron, heat shrink and care and both locks were back on the C/L and fully responsive.

EDIT; Paul, your response hit before mine. I was answering the post just prior to yours. The reason I hope it isn't a failed wire as it will be tricky to repair if it is in the concertina grommet.

You would not bet on WHAT James?

Ive basically said the same thing, if the ECU doesn't se one of the states of the three switchs it opens!

And so what is its a broken wire?? Why do you hope not? Whats the problem with that??

Already done.

Push the passenger door button down and all the doors lock.

Push the drivers door button down and three of the doors lock for a second and then unlock. (Passenger door lock does not move, stays open all the time)

I presume that's why you can still lock the car from the passenger side, as you are manually locking the door, so the car knows its locked and locks the other three for you.

Cheers

Yea, so its "Lock" signal its not getting from the ECU to tell the motor to lock that side.

Wire or plug it is then..

Plug I can do, wiring has never been my strong point. (Just look at the issues I had with the blower motor)

Cheers both, been a great help.

Wow.. Dave,

Its NOTHING like the blower issue! Its not a hard thing to find..

Release the grommet between the door and A pillar and pull the tape off holding the grommet in place on the harness..

Then push the grommet into the A pillar Hole as much as possible, while pulling the harness towards you..

In dooing this, you should hopefully see some broken wires come out NOW if you are very licky, there only be ONE broken.

Heres the PITA.. The wires will not solder right there where the break is.. So, the trick is, to cut each end back a bit, thread a new wire through the grommet and re solder much further up the harness, or as far up as you can cut strip and solder together.

The other sugestion Dave, bring the car along to CXM in september, and we will do it for you.
