Aerials

Post by nevdixon »

Does anyone know where the radio and gps aerials are on a 2008 C5 X7? Are they integrated into the rear window?

I'm having intermittent GPS covereage and would like to rule out the aerials.

Another option I am considering is to attach a cheap external GPS aerial to the head unit to help rule out any antenna issues but I'm not sure which tools are needed to remove the head unit (RNEG with Bluetooth same as this one) Image

Are they special tools or just bits of cut down coat hanger?

Many Thanks

nothing on mine which is why I am wondering if it's built into the rear screen or possibly behind the rear view mirror?

MMmm, strange. It has to be somewhere. I found an Australian site earlier, where the estate aerial is incorporated in the tailgate glass, but I can't find it now. I think the sensors for lights/wipers etc are behind the rearview mirror, so an aerial around there might be a bit crowded.

Here's an idea which might work...
Switch on the radio, and tune an ordinary portable radio to the same frequency.
Use the portable to 'sniff out' likely locations - when it's near the car antenna, you should notice interference on both the radios.
Worth a try, anyway!

If its the same as the C6, the GPS reciever is in the "pod" on the windscreen. Radio aeriel is incorperated into the bottom 2 elements of the rear window.

I've ordered a cheap external antenna from ebay to see if it makes any difference - I'll let you know how I get on.

New GPS aerial arrived from ebay - pulled the head unit out and plugged it in - instant lock on 12 satellites :-D

I removed the trim on the dashboard and stuck the new aerial behind it in front of the passenger and fed the cable down behind the head unit. Put it all back together and it's working perfectly - I'm no longer in Morocco!!!! .

I still have no idea where the GPS or radio aerials are located in the car but I'm more than happy with my £10 fix!!

For reference this was the aerial I bought

Damn! I was hoping you could give us a heads up on a holiday in Morocco!

Sound like a result anyway. I have never seen a C5 X7 saloon without a sharks fin on the roof. Maybe some owners will know different.
Maybe your car was a Friday afternoon build and they forgot the aerials!

Very strange to have a saloon without a visible aerial of some sort.

The aerial must be integrated somewhere, and possibly disconnected from the element. Check around the front and rear windows for a connection with nothing attached, or maybe in the boot somewhere.
