Xantia dashboard clock removal

Unread post by CitroenCrazy »

Please could someone give me some pointers as to how to remove the centre trim strip on a Mk 2 Xantia dashboard ?

The clock has been dicky for a while, but is now randomly switching itself on and off, so it's time to try to fix it.

Car is a 2001 Xantia Exclusive

Many thanks

Watching this topic with interest :) Not only to find out the best way to remove the clock, but also to see what you find to be wrong with the clock itself.

Mine has been playing games for nearly a year now, randomly resetting to midnight or fading out...

If I remember right in Xantia MK2 models the clock is attached to the long trim (#3).
You have to remove all those torx screws and most of them are hidden behind some others parts.
This pic is for LHD and for RHD you can make a mirror image of it.

* Start by removing steering wheel covers (upper and lower) which are fixed with 3 torx screws.
* Some of the screws are behind the trim #1 in pic (User manual pocket, cabin fuses and OBD connection).
Edit: * After that #2 must be removed. Behind it there are 2-3 screws are hidden.
* Third group is hidden behind radio frame. You don't have to remove #7 but only #11 or #12 (may be both).

I don't have a chance to check from the car since I don't have Xantia anymore.
You need only Torx tool (T20) for the screws . No other tool is needed.

Once you have removed the clock, I bet that you will find a failed/cracked solder join on its connector (the one on the cable normally is OK) that is causing the problem. I had this on my BX, and a quick go with the soldering iron sorted it out.

Well, NO ONE gonna explain it...??

Remove the steering wheel Shrouds..behind there you should see two screws, position 70 in the diagram above should help you, and at the opposite side too, then to the right of the shrouds is a plastic section (Item No.2), theres a screw holding that adjacent behind the ignition switch, and the other one to remove is behind the fold down flap in the recess where the flap catch goes.. remove that, and theres another screw in the corner holding it on..

Now, remove the radio! Seriously remove the radio...

Then under the trim edge theres 4 more screws holding it on only visible after radio removal...

Once you found all those it pulls as one unit owards you... remove the plugs as you go..

Thanks All.

I'm very grateful for the info. I'm normally the sort of person who tends to pull just that bit too hard, and only find the last retaining screw when I've just broken something.
My ability to turn a modest task into an extravaganza has to be witnessed to be believed.

I will report back after the weekend :-)

Mine had the same thing, never did get round to fixing it. Even bought a new clock off ebay. It was the thought of all those screws putting me off, having already done the heater matrix
It infuriates me to be wrong when I know I'm right

I think it was about an hour to dismantle and reassemble.. that was the third time of doing it and I knew where all the sneakily hidden screws were..

Nearly 10 years on and I’m still waiting for the solution!

Can you recall if you fixed it?

I’ve ripped mine apart and cannot see any issues with solder joints. Not obvious ones under 10x magnification anyway…

Perhaps I should get the rework air gun on it abd see if I can remedy mine.

Like you, I have a penchant for turning things into an unnecessary extravaganza.

I reckon I’ll be blowing those tiny resistors and capacitors away with too high an air speed!
